Or get a cheap C2D like the E6300 (which I have) and OC it. I OCed mine yesterday, and it runs now smoothly at 2.66 GHz

But the E6300 does not support the 1333Mhz FSB.

I think you cannot buy the E6300 anymore, they have been replaced by the E6540/E6550, which have the 1333MHz FSB. I would never buy one of the expensive C2D's. The only difference is the fixed multiplier. A little DIY, and you saved 100$.
And these C2D are really made for OCing. Mine is only aircooled, and I got 800MHz more out of it! |

You're either stinking rich or an eejit if you go for the expensive models. Anyone with half a brain should go cheap and overclock.

Yeah, an E6750 at £100 is cheap in computer land.

I saw a benchmark recently with the quad core vs. dual core and basically there were very few cases that the quad core showed a slight advantage. In most cases it was worse due to a lower clock speed.
There isn't huge widespread software support for dual cores yet let alone quad so I would say get the dual core. |

Cheers,
Close your eyes and imagine some really cool military picture, or better yet a really funny picture in this space. I said close your eyes damnit! In game: xLong_Bowx |

Hertz per Hertz, Core2Duo run 2x more calculations per Hertz then Pentium4/D series, meaning a Pentium 4 3ghz would equal a single 1.5ghz Core2Duo chip.
A E6300[1.86ghz] is about 3.72ghz in Pentium4 terms. My guess you mainly use BF2Editor, BF2editor afaik is not even optimized for dual core let alone quad, it never reachs 100% on both cpus[I have E6300], it splits the load 50/50. I tried searching for benchmarks comparing Core2Duo to Core2Quad, and honestly all I found was programs that don't use Quad - making Quads a waste of money. 3Dmark06 cpu: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_20...=877&chart=419 WinRAR http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_20...=877&chart=434 Photoshop CS3: http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu_20...=877&chart=437 |
