Can you make bf2 portable?
Can you make bf2 portable?
What I mean is run it from a portable HD, or other devices? I move around computers at work every month and hate having to reinstall everytime. Been doing some research and its look like a no. Only because BF2 writes registry info in order to run. Allot of other apps will run as portables like firefox, thunderbird, trillian, ect Just wondering if anyone knows? |

Lappys don't have super performance for their price points. Plus a moveable hard drive copy is what he is asking for.

CPU: AMD Turion 64 Dual Core GPU: Mobility X1600 RAP: 2GB OS: Windows Vista Premium I can pretty much run at the same settings as my PC without a hitch. I get 40+ FPS with all high (textures set to medium cause of Vista), AA 6x, and running at widescreen (the icon lunch code trick). My laptop only cost me around $2000CND and PR works just as great. | |

I doubt you can do it because BattleField 2 does the following:
- Creates a local cache directory in My Documents - Creates a local profile directory in My Documents - Adds entries to Windows Registry In order for it to be portable, you would need to have a special extractor that compresses your BF2 directory, the local caches, and the registry entries into one file. You would then need to add that one file to the portable drive. When installing, you would run the special extractor and it would add all registry entries and create the cache/profile folders. That's exactly what the BF2 installer does Because I haven't tested it, I can't even say if the above would work because BF2 might have some hidden security checks that are tied into your hardware IDs. |
