I'm afraid not.

If you shoot a bullet upwards, a 10th grade physics student would tell you the velocity upon reaching the ground is equal to the velocity the bullet was fired at. However, they don't take air resistance into account. As the bullet falls back down, the force of air resistance is a direct function of its velocity. It will reach a point where the force of air resistance is equal to the force of gravity, and so they cancel out and the bullet stops accelerating. That's terminal velocity. The highest velocity a resisted falling body can achieve.

I remember during the war in Bosnia, when everyone had guns at home, New Year celebrations were the best. At midnight the sky gets light up with bullets and some even throw hand grenades in ditches and sewers. There was always few stray bullet hits and sometimes MPs have to shoot someone.

Funny thing is that people got so used to shootings that no one hides. I used to watch it from the balcony with my parents
