Rescue Dawn

This movie is finally showing in my area starting Friday and I've been waiting for it for awhile. Anyone else gonna see it? It supposedly came out July 4th on a limited release and I was even gonna see it before Transformers but I couldn't find a single theater showing it. My uncle evacuated POWs from Hanoi during the Vietnam War and he's told me about the terrible shape they used to come back in. It looks like a really interesting movie, plus Christian Bale is one of my favorite actors right now, he really gets into his roles.

I noticed in the credits that it's directed by Werner Herzog. You might recall his controversial documentary film "Grizzly Man" where the environmentalist and bear enthusiast in the film was actually filmed being brutally mauled and killed by a Grizzly. the guy thought he could communicate and touch wild grizzlies.

Herzog's films are usually on the edgy side. The vampire movie "Nosferatu", and on the weird side the German film "The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser" about a guy that lived for his first 17 years in a basement devoid of human contact. Fed by a unseen stranger. Where he's later released and developes his own unique religious and ethical points of view.

This is gonna be a very edgy movie. Keep an "eye out" for deranged chickens, Herzog has a fear of chickens, and he always features a few crazed chickens. He'll probably have a scene where some dude will be buried up to his neck or tied down and a chicken pecks his eyes out or worse....lol.

I thought that the footage of the Grizzly attack was never shown to the public?

Correct but by default. You see the video camera that ran had its lens cap in place blocking footage so only audio was recovered and only six minutes of that until the tape ran out.

The Necropsy report was particularly gruesome; only Treadwell's head, partial backbone, and left forearm/hand were recovered at the scene.

Oh yea audio, but I thought they didn't play the audio either, only to his sister or something and she said it would never be played again. So only the director and the sister heard the audio in its entirety right?

It wasn't his sister but a female friend that owns the original copy. There are alternate copies of the film with full audio floating around. Try Googling for it via DivX/sub-extra.

Orly, everywhere I have checked it says that the audio isn't real and she has the only copy.
