Gaming, just like any other activity can be good or bad. It can be good if it enhances skills, knowledge, or happiness, but can be bad if it areas of your life begin to suffer like relationships, career, or health.

I knew someone who flat out refused to play video games or watch television. That guy was as brainy as they come; in fact he was our company's I.T. manager. But at home, he understood the distraction of electronics and prefered to spend his free time with his children, grandchildren, and friends. Vietnam vet, good man, and all around class act.

What? What's that got to do with jumping on turtles? You can do it in real life too.

I get out plenty. Do enlighten me.

Why is it that parents encourage their children to play games like Chess? I'll have a kid soon and I'll most definitely encourage him/her to play strategy games every once in a while. It trains a person to apply logic very quickly.

Learning to operate a computer properly is a heavy task for someone who has never done it before. It's a brand new concept to them. What helps many people is the internet -- it's such an exciting tool that they actually work to learn, without asking for a reward.

I'm not saying that my generalization is 100% accurate, but I'm curious of what other people think. Personally, I run into a lot of people who outright refuse to use a computer and play a game every once in a while -- I notice that those people are usually slower when it comes to quickly resolving a problem because their brain hasn't practiced yet.

As a good squad leader, what runs through your mind when under attack? You have make sure all of your guys are in place and make sure everyone has the right kits. You have to memorize the opposing side's movements and calculate the best place to attack based on all of the information given to you. You also need to do this quickly. If you do that for 10 years as a hobby your brain gets used to thinking that way... especially because when you play games you are *really* trying to win... you're putting in effort, whereas when you watch TV you don't need to put in any effort at all.

By the way, I don't have a TV. The mrs's and i agree that it does nothing but fry brain cells. NPR (radio) and Google News for news, DVDs/Move Theaters for entertainment -- subsititutes the TV just fine

Hey, I've seen people panicking when they run out of table and don't know what to do with the mouse.
