"Operation Certain Death"

Have you guys seen this episode of the show "Critical Situation" on the National Geographic channel?

It outlines and re-enacts the British rescue of hostages in Sierra Leone:
"In war-torn Sierra Leone in 2000, thousands of armed rebels lived in the jungle. When members of the Royal Irish Rangers were ambushed and taken hostage, the British government launched a risky and grueling rescue mission."

These SAS dudes go in and start stomping the shit out of hundreds of rebels. Some of them laid around in the jungle for a WEEK, just watching the rebels right outside their base. Then these helos came in and SAS super warriors FASTROPED ( ) into a totally hot fire fight and decimated everything. They rescued all the hostages and took only one casuality.

Between this show, and Bear Gryllis on "Man Vs Wild", I'm amazed at how unbelievably badass our friends across the pond can be.

I heard Bear Grylls and his show "Man vs Wild" is a hoax. It was said that when the cameras stopped rolling when he was stranded on a Hawaiian island, he was actually spending the night in a hotel with hot tubs, fireplaces, and internet access, haha.

*Sigh*

RIR were there training government forces, and they got ambushed. Rebels nicked their WMIKs and 4 tonner.

There were about 40 rebels. SAS ran a Covert OP after being tipped off as to location. Paras then provided area protection and SAS Squadron did what they do, everyone was home in time for tiffen. No I wasn't there. Yes I know people who were.

*NEWSFLASH* An SAS trooper still goes down just as quick with a kick to the knackers

The book's far better. Got through it in two days.

76 members of the SAS took part in the operation to retrieve the RIR. One died.
The SAS were supported by a battalion of the Parachute Regument.

They were being supported by a Mercenary Mi-24 Hind firing off salvos of rockets at groups of drugged up rebels.

[R-DEV]Gaz,

Obviously you didn't see the television program with the real truth. There were rebels, thousands, armed to the teeth and drunk...everywhere! They even had another base camp about 400 yards to the NW ready to rain down mortars.

It was hard to make out at first with the camera footage, but if you have a DVR and you paused it you can clearly see the deciding factor. What appears to be an American...tan, muscular, and shirtless with a red-bandanna was quietly sniping rebel soldiers with a bow and arrow before moving in amongst the chaos and knifing bad dudes inside the camp. He rescued like 80 POWs, in addition to helping the brits.

I'm taking that as a type of Americanised sarcasm?

I still wouldn't want to meet a SAS guy in a dark street at night...the teeth! Or rather, the lack of.
