Help me build my PC
Hi guys. I'm going to build my PC because I'm sick and tired of the crappiness of my P4 3.0Ghz, 1024DDR ram and x800 pro (anyone want if for 100quid, pm me) Which barely runs arma on lowest settings.
I have a £800 budget. And I don't plan on overclocking it any time soon. Ok here goes.. This is what I was thinking of... CPU: INTEL CORE2 DUO E6750 "LGA775 CONROE" 2.40GHZ http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=632054 CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 ::SCAN:: Ok, this is what puzzles me. Why does the inferior? E6600 cost MORE than the faster Hz E6750?? Whats the catch? I noticed that the E6750 needs a p5k motherboard, the other needs something else. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GPU: ASUS GEFORCE 8800GS GDDR3 (PCI-E) 640MB http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=499239 GPU - Asus Geforce 8800GTS 640MB ::SCAN:: Not really much question here, but I heard there were many driver problems with the GTS drivers (which should be emulsified when I finally get the whole PC). However the GTX is too expensive for me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAM: OCZ 2GB PC2-6400DDR2 4-4-4-15 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/118306/rb/0 RAM - OCZ 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 ::EBUYER:: Was interested in Corsairs DOMINATOR memory for an extra £30, but looks a bit to gimmicky for me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PSU: OCZ StealthXStream 600W http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...odid=CA-023-OC PSU - OCZ StealthXStream 600W ::OCUK:: Ok... not too sure how much wattage I would need. But I bet 600W is more than enough though? No fancy bling like LED lights on the PSU so less gimmick. What power consumption would the core2 duo 8800GS etc need. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HARD DRIVE: Samsung SpinPoint 400GB http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=14&subcat=768 HARDD - Samsung SpinPoint T HD401LJ 400GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM ::OCUK:: Fastish, reliable, quiet. Thats what I'm after, I think this one delivers. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COOLING: Zalman Super Aero Flower 110mm http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=480705 COOLER - Zalman Super Aero Flower ::SCAN:: Not totally sure what cooling to get but my friend recommended this to me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- finally MOBO: Asus P5K-E for E6750PROC http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=615971 MOBO - Asus P5K-E for E6750PROC ::SCAN:: How much am I wishing to spend on a motherboard..? Whats the difference between a £150 mobo and a £70 mobo? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOTAL: £742.83 inc. VAT exc. P&P Cheers guys. |

Sounds like a very nice rig.
Since you do not plan on overclocking i would go for the cheapest 800mhz ram. The PSU is powerful enough. Here is a review on it: I suggest you read it and decide whether it suits your needs, looks decent enough. http://www.ocia.net/articles/stealth...0w/page4.shtml Different motherboards? Well basically the biggest difference is in overclocking ablities, however you want to keep possible upgrades in mind when getting a mobo. ASUS P5K is good choice. What kind of monitor do you have? If you play with less than 1600x900 i would go for the 320mb version. Why? http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=707&chart=298 http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphi...=707&chart=302 Its cheaper and as you can see delivers marginally better than the 640mb version. |

Thanks for the advice
Do you know why the E6600 costs more than the E6750? |

Because between the E6600 and the E6750 they found a way to cheapen the manufacturing process.
I reccomend going for the Q6600. Crysis is supposed to take advantage of the quad core systems. Also, for games, memory bandwith is very important, but it's not as important as a low latency set. Find the four latency numbers (be something like 5-5-5-15 or whatever) and add them up. Then take the bandwith, the PC2 number, and put it over the sum of the latency. For example PC28500 has 8.5Gb/s transfer rate, in theroy. Divide 8500 by 30, which is the 5-5-5-15. It will give you a number. Use this number to compare ram. |
