I have read, though never tried, that you should not dissable services via msconfig (msconfig is fine for the startup options though). It is strongly reccomended that you dissable services through control panel, admin tools, services. That is how I have done all my service tweaks so far.

Have you recently installed any hardware on your comp or done any cleaning inside the case?

I have been using this for almost 2 years, so that might not work.

Start, Run, msconfig

Click selective startup, then uncheck load startup items. Next, click on the Services tab and put a check mark in the 'hide all microsoft services' checkbox then click disable all. When that's done, click OK. You should be prompted to restart the computer, so go ahead and restart. Let it try to boot to normal mode and see what happens.
Thanks, but that does not help.

Thanks for the "stuff", but it still has not solved my problem. I'm starting to think that it is probably due to .net framework 3.0 since my friend says that it is messing up many people.

Sorry, dualboot question - not "refusing to start up"

I am 99% sure that this is your problem, especially if that USB devices advice didn't worked.

Easy.

Boot from your XP CD/DVD. Select repair console. Choose your XP install (they are detailed and you just type in the number), usually on C drive and usually install "1".

Hit enter, enter your admin password if there is one. If not, just hit enter on the blank line and it'll accept that.

Now type in FIXBOOT and hit enter. It'll ask you to confirm, say yes, and it'll re-write your boot files to a fresh new set. Type in EXIT and hit enter. Now change your BIOS to not boot from CD, and let it boot.

Works 80% of the time

I totally agree. In order to keep your machine running clean and at peak performance a new reformat is in order anyway at least once a year. whenever anything major fouls up, that's a good indication it's time to start fresh.
