Coffee Question

Is fresh-ground coffee, IE, done every morning, worth the extra cost of the grinder and possibly whole beans? Or are whole beans less expensive? Is there really a noticable difference? Or is the taste indistinguishable from dried Folgers from a can?

fresh coffee has an heir of well freshness. Is doesn't taste like "out of tin", but all you need to do is get a cheap jug thing with a depressor on it, so it filters the coffee from the grounded beans. By the way, you can get fresh grounded beans pre packed, tastes nice.

(im a coffee fanatic, i drink soooo much per day its unbelievable)

Comparing fresh coffee with that canned stuff should be considered a deadly sin

You will notice a huge difference in taste. Selecting the right coffee for your taste might be more difficult though, especially if you are used to that Folgers (or similar) stuff. I suggest you get smaller quatities at first and try many different types of coffee. Some might be too acidic for you, other too bitter. I personally have a preference for coffee from Costa Rica, as dark as possible.

Don't be afraid to experiement and don't be surprised if you get some coffee you do not like. It will happen... just try another one if that's the case.

Also sealed packs of freshly grounded beans can be a good alternative to grinding it yourself. Once it's grounded you may also keep it in the freezer. Word of advice though... if you do that, keep the large batch in the freezer and only keep outside of the freezer what you need. I usually keep 10 pounds in the freezer and refill a 1 pound jar I use for my daily consumption. Worse you could do to your coffee is continuously taking it out of the freezer, then back in, then out again, etc.

When I was really strapped on cash and had to save every penny, I drank tea for about 3 weeks straight! Coffee too. I have no idea why, but the taste of coffee is very repulsive for me... even if its in that tin can or not. One day I might get used to it though.

I know people that simply can't get a day started without coffee though.

you are henceforth and forever BANNED from coffee discussions for using the S word, Starbucks barely passes for a sewer watered coffee substitute :P

100% Columbian bean in a big fukkin bag, ground on the nubile thighs of tan skinned virgins, never drink anything less, 1/25th teaspoon of salt in the filter, 5 heaping tablespoons of fresh ground beans on the top, filtered water, cream and sugar to liking......Starbucks is like a hippy, yuppy pseudo coffee ...ive had better coffee at gas stations :P
