George Carlin -- did you watch it?
First of all let me point out that I am a HUGE George Carlin. I love all of his work all the way back from his first appearances. He really knows how to get the crowd going and says some really controversial stuff that has alot of meaning when you think about it deeply.
His new special was on yesterday live from new york on HBO (around 10:00pm EST). Did anyone watch it? I did.. and I didnt like it that much. Some of that stuff was the die hard funny and had my stomach hurting for a while from laughter... but it wasn't his usual shows. It seemed like he was "preaching" more than he was joking -- which is great -- because everything he says is spot on, but it wasn't what I was expecting. Some of my favorite quotes from yesterdays show off the top of my head (so i might not get them exactly right): "It's called the American Dream because you could only be asleep when looking at it". "That means that a person kills themselves somewhere in the world every 30 seconds. *LOOKS AT WATCH*" The opening poem was amazing. No way I can quote that. "We have stuuupid motherfuckers in this country." "You know what word isn't used often enough? CORHNOLE. All of the evangelical christians really changed things. Now its 'anal intercourse' or 'ass fucking'.... what ever happened to CORNHOLING?" "What about that contractor from Oklahoma that got beheaded? I say fuck him. If you dont wanna get beheaded, stay in fucking oklahoma... stay in fucking oklahoma." The bit about turning off all electricity in the country and what would happen if the entire country had absolutely 0 electricity. It was quite disturbing ![]() -- Anyway, it was an ok show. It wasn't as funny as his others, but I think he was really trying to send a message this time. Even though not as many people laughed (as there weren't as many jokes), they cheered like psychos when he was done. He's really loved by alot of people and if some scientist created a juice that you can drink and live forever, I should be the first person to get it. Then George Carlin. EDIT: Oh, and one of the funnier things he ever said was: "Take a shit? Take a shit? You dont take a shit, you leave a shit! That's the whole idea!" ..... damn I was laughing for so long when he said that. |

I was thinking about removing that quote -- but I wanted to see what people would say about that.
Ideological arguments tend to throw people at each others throats, but if I could state my quick opinion here at the risk of being called a dick... What he was trying to say has been said many, many, times already -- just not as straight forward-like. The fact is that people look down on terrorists that become suicide bombers and blow their car near military installations or checkpoints. The fanatical muslim population makes these people out to be martyrs, which of course is wrong by our standard. On the other hand, we have people that willingly go to war zones completely unarmed and then get caught by the scum of the earth -- the Jihadists. Yes, the jihadists are pieces of shit and deserve a death sentence for ruining so many families... but why would you knowingly send contractors into such dangerous areas without moderate protection? What did they expect was going to happen? It's the equivalent of sending a Jewish contractor into the heart of Nazi Germany in 1942. Or perhaps the equivalent of sending a Russian contractor in Grozny during the bad times between Chechnya and the Russian Federation. People aren't taking the Middle East seriously enough. They get surprised when they see that footage, yet this kind of crap has been going for much longer than CNN or FOX NEWS has been reporting it --- and to people who are truly innocent in that they weren't going where they shouldn't be. I hold the same opinion when it comes to the kids in Palestine throwing rocks at Israeli tanks. Their parents grieve and mourn after their children get shot up by 50 caliber weapons, then go public with their contempt for Israel... while it is they who allowed their children to run like idiots in front an armored column. So anyway, sorry if I offended anyone and I dont want you guys to think I'm a dick for thinking this way... but it is my opinion after all. You can remove this post if it's too controversial. |

He wouldnt be funny if he wasnt as extreme, name one comedic talent that isnt extreme for the sake of entertainment? {Eddy Murphy uses the F word about 75 times in the first 10 minutes of RAW, why? because its supposed to be funny?}
Dont take what someone says for comedic/shock value too seriously, consider the source first. Carlin is/always has been a comedic genius, it just so happens that hes very prone to irreverant political commentary, its opinionated, somewhat askew, and never to be taken too seriously. I would hazard to say that labeling him an 'extremist' is a little to harsh a term, hes more an ultra liberal, realist :P Hes stating the irony that people are shocked when an unarmed civilian contractor, goes into a hot zone, with no protection, it is a warzone after all...he more or less means, if you dont want to get hurt or die, why go there to begin with? {not my view, just explaining waht i got from watching his view} extremist to me means someone whom would strap bombs on children and send them to an embassy parking lot......Carlin is just a political comedian |

I would like to see this, but I don't have HBO
And Lewis Black has writers to help him write material.........I frown upon that. Plus that "I'm always angry" routine is getting old. |
