Unhappy Video Card Issues

I got a new computer about a month ago, and for the whole time I have had video card problems. The biggest problem is, that my computer randomly freezes
, usually 2-3 times in a day. It doesn't react on anything and soon the screen goes black and I have to restart the computer. It nearly never freezes when playing, but I have a bad fps (about 28 FPS in PR). Shouldn't 8600GT do better?
Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
AsRock ALiveSATA2-GLAN
NVidia 8600GT
2 gigs of RAM

Any help would be appreciated.

Drivers? Are they up to date? Are you overclocking it too much (this sounds like the problem)?

What's French for "déjà vu"?

Phil Collins doesn't cut it around here

Bad video card or motherboard might be the problem other than that check airflow and temps inside case or else some other component might be the problem there is just so much that can go wrong with comps lol.

I got the exact same thing tumppu about 5 days ago. I fixed it by pretty much dissasembling my computer and putting it back together again. I reseated the RAM, video card, and replugged in all my PSU cables. That seemed to fix it.

What kind of power supply do you use?
A @ max Watt?
ATX 1.2 or higher?

... and do you use Vista or a up2date version of XP?

Did you uninstall the previous drivers before you installed the new ones?

I'll try this out.

I didn't uninstall the previous drivers, but I've had this problem for the whole time with this computer.

For future reference, always uninstall drivers and use driver cleaner after the reboot for best results.
