Question on new Keyboard and Mouse.
I was thinking of going for a G5 Mouse and G15 Keyboard, but I always wanted a
Logitech MX5000 Wireless Bluetooth Laser Keyboard Set, so I am not sure what to choose, I want something which is comfortable, not to pricey as well. I think the MX5000 is about twenty dollars cheaper than the G5 and G15 put together. Anyway, could you decide for me? |

I currently have a G5 gaming mouse. It was a nice step up from my other microsoft optical mouse. The variable dpi settings are a big help. As well there is a newer version firmware out that lets you increase the polling rate for the mouse (polling rate is how many times a second the computer checks the mouse for change in movement, more times a second the more accurate your movement is on screen relative to your mouse)
If you want real precision I would stay away from cordless mice. One other thing I would suggest is a proper mouse pad for optical mice. I have used a desk, foam pad and gaming pad. The gaming pad is by far the most consistant and percise surface. The one I bought goes for about $15 US. I haven't used the MX5000 so I don't know how good it is. I would google for gaming mouse comparisons and tests. Check out the reviews for each and see how the two compare, you may even find a better option out there. Good luck |

I've had the logitech wireless combos in the past. From experience I can tell you they're AWFUL for gaming.
The problem is the size and weight of the mouse. The logitech wireless mice are very tall and your hand sits on them at a higher angle. This becomes fatiguing on your knuckles the muscles of your thumb and pinky. Also, the weight of the unit and the batteries becomes fatiguing to move around after a while. I know, I know, this sounds like a really wimpy thing to whine about. But I think if you play for 2-3 hours for a few days in a row, you'll really regret using that mouse. ESPECIALLY if you work with a mouse all day long and go home at night to use that brick. I work in software with a standard wired mouse. It's ultralight and flat, very easy to use. Going home to a mouse that's full of batteries and 3 times taller really sucked. I replaced my logitech mouse with the G5 gaming mouse. Best mouse I've ever had, hands down. Phenomenal. wireless mouse = garbage. It's a gimmick that is totally unpractical and worthless for desktop gaming. |

I myself prefer trackball mouses, notably the Logitec Trackman Wheel. As long as you clean it every month or so (sounds bad, but its just wiping down the ball and cleaning off the little pad things that the ball rolls on, and the optical lense, it takes less than 30 seconds to do), its pretty precise. I love it for sniping, especially when the target is fairly still, because if you have a steady hand and aren't twitchy, its a breeze to line up targets. And there is no need for a mouse pad, as you aren't moving the mouse itself. Might want to invest in one of those gel wrist pads depending on how your hand lays though. Only problem with a trackball, and you could say the same thing for laser/roller mice, is that tracking a fast moving target can be tedious, as you have to keep rolling your thumb over the ball, and are prone to overshooting your target.
But if thats not your bag... Wired mice are much better than wireless IMO. As long as you keep your wires neat, and aren't playing from across the room, wires shouldn't be a problem at all. Since you're plugged in, you'll always have connection, and won't have to worry about batteries. Plus, you won't have the little stutters that you get when you have weak batteries, affecting your gameplay. They're almost always cheaper than wireless, too. Wireless is only useful if you're dangerously OCD about complete neatness, or you want to sit all the way across the room to play. |
