Well, since they're both similarly sized and have similar blade designs, and the same locking mechanism, what it really comes down to is which one feels better in your hand. It appears that the first one has a clip, while the second doesn't, but is $60 cheaper.

I would stay away from any of the "automatic" or spring-assisted knives, as those tend to be more heavily regulated/banned than manual folders under some states' laws.

A smaller, more concealable version of the award-winning Mark I, the Mark II features the same high-strength milled-aluminum construction, state-of-the-art plunge lock
mechanism, and secondary safety lock. Available in both manual and automatic versions, it boasts a broadening spear point blade ground from .148-inch 154CM stainless and coated with Black Tungsten Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC). The butt of the Mark II's non-slip, ergonomic handle houses a carbide glass breaker for breaching windows and delivering focused impact strikes during close-quarters combat. A spring-steel clip supports convenient left or right-side tip-down carry.

That's the reason that one is $60 more.

And to answer Gara's question protection at college and for camping and just general use on weekends.
