Doesnt look that good to me like, Armed Assault has probably pretty much the same features as that with a better engine, modability and graphics.

It looks very interesting.
I wonder what the system requirements will be ? |

The old Combat Missions didnt need highend computers, and since it's a modified engine, I guess Shock Force wont, too.

I've been kinda interested in this game. Did the older games have a steep-learning curve or anything, though?

Yeah, it was kinda confusing in the beginning (the old ones were even missing a tutorial).

I haven't played these kind of games since Close Combat: Normandy and I will be checking it out as a decompression tool from PR.

It's tough trying to describe any of the combat mission series games to someone not familiar with them.
The guys behind them research down in detail, everything from proper equipment (of-course) to armor penetration values. Here's an example of what is taken into account in tank combat in CMBB (Combat Mission Barbarossa to Berlin) which is an earlier game in the same series: --- Lethality to vehicle crew of armor penetration has new, more sophisticated system which newly takes into account the mass of armor sent into the interior, the likelihood of the armor to fragment, and the size of the bursting charge of AP ammo, if any (and the chance it might not function properly on penetrations which don’t make it cleanly through). You’ll find that AP "shot" (which has no explosive capacity) tends to to a better job penetrating armor, but less damage once inside compared to AP "shells" which have an explosive charge. With small guns it now often takes multiple hits to knock out tanks, and often this will be from injuring or killing the crew rather than significant physical damage to the tank itself. --- I still got fond memories from CMBB when I knocked out a tiger tank. I put 8 assorted "pathetic" tanks to attack a Tiger Tank in an ambush (CMBB is WW2). 2 of my tanks survived. 2 guys jumped out of the tiger tank, the rest had been wounded/killed inside the tank. That you can have hundreds of units involved in a fight is another thing. From a tactical strategy viewpoint. The game simply rules. Check their homepage for more info, you'll see that it contains far more than what you can squeeze into a FPS. |
