Yes, you can choose. If you choose real-time, you get to set up some waypoints and whatnot before the battle begins if you want. Click the blinking red button in the bottom right hand corner to start things when you're ready.
And yeah, the movement, camera, and graphics seem pretty dated, but I dunno, I kinda enjoyed it. It's nice being able to have much more control over your individual units and being able to engage enemies at long ranges. |

Its quite good. I get a really anyoing bug where by if I depress a key on my keyboad, all my controls freeze for a few seconds. Apart from that, fun. Javelins are awesome.

I generally Play FPS exclusively but this game looks totally badass. Turn based to learn the game then Real time later for full effect. Oh btw the demo I'm downloading; all multiplay functions are active. http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmsf/downloads.html
