I read about this in Janes Defence Weekly, an issue from late 2006. Haven't heard anything else though.

They've been thinking about if for years. As far as I know the ACOG is one of the scopes under consideration to replace the SUSAT under the FIST programme.

If they do go through with it, they'll need a different mounting to the usual M1913 of the ACOG, as the L85 as a 19mm dovetail top side, not an M1913.

You see, they've got the rest of the SA80 system working, so now they're replacing the only part that worked properly in the first place

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

1991 pricing:

L85A1 : £450
SUSAT :£500

can the ASOG really cost much more than that?

retail prices typically range from $900.00 to $1400.00, depending on model
According to Wikipedia. So depending on the model, it might be more expensive than the SUSAT.
