WW2 Films
Alright. For my Film Studies coursework, we have to do a research project into, well, anything. Well, i've decided to look at the portrayal of WW2 in Film across time.
Now, the problem is, I need some good films that I can watch for reference. I need a film about WW2 that was filmed in WW2 (are there any?) and I need a few from the 50s and 60s. Good films only, please, I want something I can enjoy and not brain destroying boringness I don't want to sound like "lol i cant do my homwork can u guyz do it 4 me?" but, I haven't got a clue about these films in these eras. Anyone got any suggestions? |

I will list Soviet movies only, allowing others to cover the rest of the world.
The first that come to mind are "Come and see" and "Znak bedy"(or "Sign of misfortune"). But these are relatively recent ones; my personal favorites. You may wish to find the "Bitva za nashu Sovetskuyu Ukrainu"(Battle for our Soviet Ukraine) - a documentary filmed during the War. An epic "Osvobozhdenie"(Liberation) is a good one. "A zori zdes tikhie" is a classic, so is "V boy idut odni stariki"(Only Old Men Are Going to Battle). "Ballada o soldate"(Ballad of a Soldier) and "Letyat zhuravli"(The Cranes Are Flying) were filmed back in the 50s, so you might wish to see them. I recommend all of these films to the other forum members. If you manage to get your hands on any of those (which is not at all difficult, for these are all quite popular movies), you will not be disappointed. It certainly seems that Soviet cinematography is completely unknown in the US or the majority of european countires, which is appaling for many of these movies are true masterpieces which deserve being watched many-many times. |

I think what i've decided on is:
The Way Ahead (1944, British, Africa) Battleground (1949, American, Bastogne) The Longest Day (1962, American, D-Day) Saving Private Ryan (1997, American, D-Day). I'd like to change The Way Ahead to a Hollywood movie so that continuity between the films is better. Any further suggestions? Preferably ground battles (to fit with the other 3). There's an awful lot of american sub and plane films filmed in WW2 |

Well, they are going from patriotic movies early 40-50-60s, to dramatic movies 80-90-00.
I wonder what they'll be like in 50 years. You might want to extrapolate aswell, and have some evidence to back it up. |
