Last time we had a great depression, it didn't exactly turn out too well for everyone... the guy mentioned social and political consequences of global warming likely leading to conflicts due to limited resources, but didn't apply the same kind of thinking to the no-action-no-global-warming scenario.
Any attempt to significantly reduce global warming would certainly have a significant impact on the economy. The more measures you take, the bigger the impact, and since there's the whole uncertainty about global warming, you never know just how many measures you have to take. So, you can end up with a situation where you screw yourself over, and get screwed over further by the global warming. The guy's whole argument is based on his assumption that not taking action if global warming is true is worse than taking action if global warming is false, which is something that was said many times before, just without a fancy diagram. However, that's not you can say for sure. |

action generally means policies that cut emissions, increase efficiency etc, and not stick a 20 megaton nuke in the upper atmosphere. I can't see why it wouldn't work.
His point is valid though - but you know what the world is like. The governments will take minimum action, and if there is something wrong, ask the head of a few departments to politely commit suicide and lies out their teeth. |

If everyone on this planet actually for one minute stopped thinking about themselves Global warming could be halfed in 10 years, the fact that we as a people are ignorant to any thing that doesnt fit into outr own little pipe dreams is what got us into this position in the first place and the attitude of "i dont need to do this cos everyone else will do it so they aint gonna miss my contribution" is flawed on the grounds that every other fucker else is just as narrowminded as you and is thinking the same thing.
I dont just blame the plebians, we have become accustomed to following our "leaders" wisdom and every government on this planet is not concerned with how much polution is in the air, just how much money they can make. For example, us as a people today have within our power to completely eliminate the use of fossil fuel worldwide! The Technology is there, the implementation is there but where is the follow through? why are we still driving round vehicles which chug out poison into the air when there is a completely polution free alteranative? MONEY, what is any countrys largest tax? fuel, the cost of oil and its products are around 30/40% of every western world countrys main income and they are hardly gonna go giving that up are they, yet it is perfectly ok for them to charge us a polution tax even though they arent offering the alterantive aswell, fuckin robbin bastards!!!!!! |

That's the problem right there. Grand pronouncements with no data but broad sweeping indictment of "most" people. Based on what little hard data there is out there we could slow the increase by maybe a degree. Again, based loosely on that, to cut emissions by 50% would mean huge changes in the way the world works. Huge changes that most of us "narrow-minded fuckers " would not agree to lacking serious evidence. So far I have seen massive fraud on the part of the GW affirmers and similar but not as exaggerated bullshit from everyone else. The scary fascist way that some GW affirms want to treat anyone who disagrees with them gives me a hint as to what measures they would be willing to go to in achieving their goal. |

Humans could disappear tonight and GW would still happen. It's just another scam to expand govt control over all kinds of shit. If they get a carbon tax for one thing, it opens the door to tax everything that has any relation to carbon emissions.
