I bet it's gonna be veeery laggy... The woods and smoke in OFP caused a lot of lag.

You know something is amiss when the community make something better than the professionals within a short time span (as in comparing BF2 mods to the actual game thats still new, or OFP mods to BF2... they blow it out of the water).

Sure you are right, but if those "community programers" had to build up a game on their own, it would take the same time and probably it won't be without flaws.

What modders are doing is just improving or modifying existing data, it's a tough job though. But not as hard as the job of a game programer.

What he's trying to say is that the community has a better understanding of what a game should be like than a professional studio. We cannot compare the skill of a gaming studio to a mod team, as the studio shells out alot of cash to get the best.

It seems as though the people conceptualize the games for EA are using some sort of "formula" or theory. They aren't thinking about it in a raw sense -- what gamers like and done like (as they dont know).

Sure the community knows better what they want, that's why the game industry developes modable games because they know they can't satisfy all peoples needs.

btw... i wouldn't need BF2 if OFP had a better grafic. You got almost everything a hardcore tactics gamer needs in that game. Just not enough islands or at least, the community doesn't want them although they are good. Mods were good, too. Specially the Wargames Mod As good as i think realitymod will become, just with worse grafics.

This is true.. but..

There is alot more bitching in the BF2 community than any other I have ever played in. People seem to get angry more than they have fun.

This makes BF2 a sort of paradox. On the one hand, it seems as thought this is the game for you -- it has everything you might want. Then, once you start playing, the flow of the game becomes so ridiculously unrealistic that you get angry.

Then, the next day, you start thinking up all of these tactics that you can use in BF2, only to realize when you play that none of them will work because of the way the devs did certain things.

What you end up having is a crapload of people what like the concept of BF2, the look of BF2, many gameplay characteristics of BF2 -- but hate so many things that get in the way.

Whether or not doing this was intentional, I don't know. What I do know is that once the big game releases start coming in again, the BF2 community will half of what it is now. You'll see.

Of yourse this will happen. Most players who play this game anyway use it as a time filler while waiting for the games they were actually waiting for ( like me ). Me and another clanmate just got tired of playing the same game ( OFP ) all day, with the same ppl etc. The german OFP community could be one whole clan. Everybody knows the other, the rest is a bunch of running targets, no fun to shoot at because they quit after 2 mins and 10 deaths anyway after waiting 20 minutes for missionstart and 100 reassigns.

Negative on that, you should hop over the BUF forums for Infiltration{UT 99 realism mod} and see how mod teams are viewed, abused, chided, harassed, insulted, knitpicked, and altogether unappreciated, before making a broad sweeping statement like that.

http://forums.beyondunreal.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19

It'll take you sometime to read through all those threads, but, i think you'll find this community, over here with BF2, is in general a lot more respectful, mild mannered, and humane than a lot of other communities are, especially towards people working for free , on thier own time, like the PRMM mod team.
