Considering that I've seen a missle launch from an aircraft and hit another that was above and behind the firing aircraft. I would be inclined to say that BF2 missles are dumbed down a least a little too much.

I would love to see the missles be more effective, but the chaff / flare time shortend. The chopper can drop countermesures way to often, and the jet not often enough.
I REALY like the proximity sensor idea. That would allow us l337 pilots to fly between buildings to get missles off our tails. In that case, slower missles would be more fun, so we can have time to try that, and to be more realistic, Id like to see a missle incoming indicator, insdead of just a lock indicator. Also while Im on the subject, it looks like the team plans to force cockpit cam. This is a good thing for realsum but kind of crippling. I would be very happy if they could enable a mouslook or somthing that would allow us to look around while flying. I think there is a mouselook cam option, but it freezes your joystick, making it usless. Also, could we get an indicator on the map marking hit locations? Would make it alot easyer to know how your doing on your bombing. |

the proximity fuse (i believe) blows up close to the target. so if you have a radar lock on you the missile will explode when its radar indicates it is close to you.

Yeah, I know, but whats more fun than diving suddenly under a bridge and seeing a golden fireball behind you?
I guess that would be less realistic to have a sensor, and more realistic, but less fun if it had a radar fuse. If the missles where like real ones, they would be so effective it wouldnt be any fun to fly without making the maps 100 times there size, speeding up the jets and making them fly realisticly. |

Turns out the missiles work even better when they fly faster. SO they travel at a realistic speed in his current internal version.

This is a problem that I have to work out. The faster the missile the higher the chance of a kill is true. HOWEVER BF2s netcode absolutely kills that. The reason that my missiles were so slow was because that allowed the netcode to keep up. It gave the missiles an almost 100% kill rate. When I made the missiles go super fast they owned other planes to the point of ridicule, in singleplayer. When I played online with my test buddy, we found out that while I was perfectly capable of hitting and killing him, he could not hit me at all. I was hosting so I had the network advantage. When he shot, even if I was flying straight the missiles would usually just veer off in a random direction. Point of this post: Faster missiles = Better kills only in singleplayer. Battlefield 2s netcode totally screws that up and actually makes them less effective when used online. By the way my AIM-120 AMRAAM Missile kicks serious ass. Sorry couldn't help it, I love those missiles. Especially after all the work it took to export the little buggers. | |
