And yes it's not in Beta it's in Internal Alpha.

Originally, instead of making a demo they were gonna mod it with HL2 and BF2 engines. Now they are concentrating on the full retail edition, I just stumbled across this from modDB. 2nd paragraph is the nut grabber:

Due to issues with the Reality Engine, we had to drop it as our engine and focus on porting across the game to another engine. Due to this we need to focus 100% on the full game, if we want to stay on track development wise. From our own standpoint the full commercial game has always been our main focus, and the mods were something extra we wanted to do, obviously given the current circumstances we are not in a position to dedicate more time to the mods.

We are open for anyone wishing to adopt the HL2 mod, and we can provide all the source and the majority of the content (mapping, and custom code is all it would require)

Yes it does have cut and pasted look you could say...some things have not been changed since 1990s...but other things are TOP OF THE LINE...like the new trees/bushes, visual mechanics of vehicles, day/night effects, lighting on vehicles, ballistic effects.

All of these are better than BF2 could ever do. So for me it IS about how beautiful the graphics are, and functional.

Its just not as well rounded, due to small dev team, its mountain of work due to scale of game.
Many of its features are better looking than BF2, or oblivion.

I tried the trial last year but never felt I could justify a MMORPG subscription for it. If I just had to pay once for it, then I definitely would have played it a lot more, since it had a lot more slow-paced realistic feel to it. I even joined a clan before I started playing, since there really isn't an alternative if you want to have any fun.

I liked the way I would spend 15 minutes waiting for the enemy to attack, then getting killed before I fired a shot (by a pixel, somewhere out in the foliage...). TS resounded with tears of joy when I finally got my first kill after about 10 hours of play!

ArmA is definitely a game that reminds me of the style of WWII:O, at least if it is played in certain ways (freaking ArmA is too open in what the play-style actually is sometimes: everything from deathmatch to GTA-style open-ended play). Certainly the fact that gameplay is relatively slow and realistic (ish) and that run-and-gun really isn't an option makes the two games similar. Personally, I'm hopeful that the backend database thingie for ArmA (DSTS) leads to some sort of persistent game a bit like WWII:O, but somehow I'm not convinced. I'll wait in hope...

The verbal brutality found on forums is often reminiscent of the physical brutality found in first person shooters, except that forums allow those with slower reflexes to join the carnage without a handicap.

lol. Yea, WWIIOL is a good game, albeit with some graphics that make OFP look like Crysis. Still, like OFP, they can be overlooked. The gameplay is awesome. I remember once attacking a British held town as a German rifleman. Crept up into this hedgerow, went prone, crawled up the bank and at about 400 meteres away, started taking pot shots. Got 4 kills as a bunch of British troops were running across this large street. Great game.

America was a tad late into the First World War. They redeemed themself's and came in slightly sooner in the Second. Now they seem determined to start the Third.
