How honest is your ISP?
I understand this probably could be Threaded under the help section, but to me it's a situation that precludes help in that it could prevent future connection loses in seemingly healthy cable connections. Plus I'm curious to see how many ISPs are lying to you guys and putting you off like mine did.
If you've checked your Internet speeds and they seemed fine but you still get high pings from what you believe to be reliable servers or possibly get Internet spikes (indicated by connection warnings or even lost connections) Your Internet provider may be cheating you. Here's how; they give you a good clean connection (high noise to signal ratio download 30-36 dB) but a weak flow (low decibel reading under -15 dBm/+ 15 dBm). Also your upload ceiling may be at the upper level of decent range (over 25-55 dBm and you can temporarily lose your upload which would be a failure to report to or communicate with the server giving the 'ol connection warning) Here's a link to a page for info with a link to test your modem (refresh page for new readings) (scroll up for an in depth explanation) http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d...al.html#signal BTW this also effects your television reception as the signal is of general cable signal quality. Mine read 35 dB SNR down which was super clean (over 30 dB makes for a good download speed test lol) but was only -6 dBmV which was evil (way less then the desired -15 to +15, 0 dBm being perfect) and upload was at the border 55-57 dBm just under the 58 dBmV spike zone. Armed with this information and a firm tone, do like I did and freakin get your monies worth, cause these guys always smile and show you the speed test but never the signal to noise ratios and leave you with your cock in your hand more frustrated than ever the next time you spike out of a game. To sum up you want: - downstream from your ISP signal to noise ratio range of 30-36 dB - downstream power level (receive from ISP) -15dBmV to +15dBmv - upstream (transmit from your location) +8 dBmV to 55 dBmV the lower the number the better most common comfort zone is 40 dBmV |

Downstream received signal power = 0.0 dBmV
SigQu: Signal to Noise Ratio = 34.7 dB Upstream transmit signal power = 55.0 dBmV Sons of Bitches? |

I barely understand this stuff but I would assume that 0.0 dBmv downstream received signal power is a mis-read.

I can't connect to the IP they gave, and I can't understand the technocrap they talked about to fix it.

My ISP were constantly capping out internet so i couldnt play PR from 6pm-11pm(when everyone else plays). They claimed that i was "using torrent softwear that hogs the bandwitdth".....My house at that point did not contain any DL sowtwear of any sort. Now it does, but i keep it locked up, 24/7 by my firewall, until the next installment of PR comes out.
I own an 8M BB connection which had been operating fine until 4 months ago. It went offline for a few days and when it came back it was at 2M....We made about 50GBP worth of phone calls and we managed to get it up to a max of 6M....they claim that our line doesnt support 8M.....Why tell us that when you were giving it to us 4 months ago at 8.1M? Im being scammed but there is nothing i can do. ...mongol... |

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/docsdiag/ But if it's a big-ass hassle and your not getting any connection warnings or loss why bother. If on the other hand you are experiencing game interruptions, it's worth the hassle to find out if it's due to a stingy ISP so you could at least prove it to them so they would reset your line up to excepted standards. | |
