Grunts dont earn a good wage. Its a fact of life. I was offered a job by the RAF careers officer with a starting sallery of 31k a year and officer fast track. Turned it down becasue ive decided I really dont like the whole "at work 24/7 and tied in for 9 years" deal, plus my Dad warned me that Careers officers will tell you anything to get you in, just like they did with him. It all sounded a bit to sweet of a deal to be true.

There's a higher risk in being a Royal Marine than a Pilot though, I mean, you're less likely to get killed in combat as a pilot, but the pay doesn't reflect that.
