I can just about make the Marine quals to get out of boot camp and as they are required to stay at that standard I feel they should get paid more than they do not to mention they are putting their lives on the line plus teachers, doctors, police ectr. should be paid more too.

Hes pretty young right now. And his math is his best subject. He is a mound of clay ready to be molded.

Yeah, but Resjah told me he'd try and join some kind of Navy SEALs if he didn't get in the USAF as a pilot (yeah, he's an idiot). Anyway, I told him: Anyone can shoot, anyone can run, anyone can die, you've just got to have that special quality. Out of 1000 people only 1 may be the best candidate.

The most basic way would be to enlist as an infantryman. He would then go through boot camp and the School of Infantry. About halfway through SOI you choose your MOS; most of the snipers are 0311 (rifleman) but they'll take any infantry specialty, mostly what they're looking for is determination and a lot of heart (and an Expert rifle qualification). Once through SOI he would be assigned to an infantry Battalion. Once there, he would have to volunteer to go through the STA (Surveillance and Target Acquisition) platoon indoctrination course. They typically have 1 or 2 a year (it depends on the unit's deployment schedule). The indoc varies from unit to unit, but basically they work the hell out of you, and make you do sniper type stuff for a couple of days to test your grit and determination. If he passed that he would then get assigned to the STA platoon. But wait, he's not a sniper yet. The platoon would train him until he was ready to go to the Scout/Sniper school. again, it depends on the deployment schedule and when the unit gets school allotments, but expect 6 months with STA before he could go to the school. Not being a sniper, I'm not really sure how long the school is or what specifically the training entails, but suffice it to say that Scout/sniper school is one of the most difficult course the Corps has to offer, and has a high dropout rate. I'm sure he could google it. Sound like fun? Any other questions he may have, I'd be more than happy to answer them if I can.

What a lot of people don't realise is you have to be physically fit to be a fast jet pilot as well, those G Forces play hell on the weak.

They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come." |

I spent months getting to my standard. Anybody can fly a plane, you need to be trained for months for most to be good at it. Anybody can run 1500 meters, most people need training to do it to a good standard.

Yeah, but given training, it would be easy, given training, flying is easy, Its like anything, as long as your trained, then its easy.
Marines are tough, I'm not taking that away from them, I just know plently of people that wouldn't choose the Marines, even if they could get in, and go to the Army. Become a pilot in the RAF is Physically difficult, and MORE mentally challenging that become a Marine. Training you mind is harder for most people than training your body. |
