Basically its an alternative history game based on what might have happened if the Cold War got hot in the late 1980s. The USSR attempts an invasion of Europe, as their forces are bogged down they launch a surprise assault on the USA in an attempt to divide NATO's forces into more managebe, bite sized chunks. Its a RTT (Real Time Tactical) game from the people that made Ground Control and is essentially that same game but slightly modified and set in the late 1980s. And its going to be awesome. | |

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

Mine is downloading at an average of about 125kb/s. Not great, but its not 10kb/s. I only got around 20Kb\s without using the download manager they provide.

Apparently its way faster to use the download manager than a standard browser download. From what I've heard around 100-120kbps rather than 10 (though one guy was saying he got around 500kbps)
Oh, also, I've heard very little about the "NATO" faction. Does anyone know what they're geared up with? Leopards (1 or 2)? Challengers? Cheiftans? AMX-30s? What do the infantry carry? FA-MAS? G3? L85? FNC? And WTH is thier attack helo? The Tiger was no where near ready in '89, the UK didnt have the WAH-64... so what? Lynx with TOWs? Me wants to know! If they have the right gear set up they might tempt me away from all those lovley Kalashinkovs, T-80s, Hinds and what not. Edit: ooooh... just saw the NATO teaser vid. Shiny... Sudden urge to boosh both the USSR and the US in the face with the might of Europe! |

Played it for a bit and its great. Nice and fluid, very fast paced and to the point. Games last for between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on if sides are even. Infantry rocks. Support artillery rocks, too.
The attention to detail is amazing, frankly. The way the MLRS missiles drop after about 100m before acquiring the target, the way the bombs dropped by a bomber split their casing before impact. Its really, really impressive. And being able to zoom right in and hear conversations from your infantrymen is bloody awesome, and hear their footsteps as they run. |

Too bad it's back to everyone being a newbie. Nobody even takes out those bridges anymore, and taking them out usually makes one hell of a difference.

Oh, I almost forgot. Nukes are utterly epic. After the blast is gone and the smoke remains, you can zoom in and your camera turns black and white, and becomes static-ey and static can be heard on the sound. Its a wonderful touch. Nukes are incredibly, superbly, devastating. Not quite a gamewinner though as you can only kill so much and your enemy can just build more.
