Default HL2 Players only -- What could have made it better?

If you havn't played HL2: Sorry, don't post here, please.

Now don't get me wrong, I loved HL1 (which we're not talking about here) and I loved HL2. The story is great and I'm always liking a good "Resistance" theme if the good guys are the resistance.

I followed HL2's development a while casually. I wasn't the type to beg for interviews or that sort of thing; I simply wanted the game for entertainment and because Gorden Freemen is awesome (Though GMan is cooler.)

What we're discussing is what you think would have made the game a bit more immersive, and discussing what you think about other peoples ideas. Flaming makes baby Jesus vomit.

Here are some of mine:

* General lack of real world weapons
- Main weapon was the SMG, which looked similar to an MP10 (The one Eng. got from Special Forces expantion of BF2) but it did not have a realistic magazine capacity. It was also very inaccurate even for an SMG. I was also sort of hoping for a ROF setting for some weapons. I personally would have made the main long arm something out of the AK family, as this is Checnya that City 17 is in.
-Main side arm was the 9MM pistol. Its ammo count is fine, but the model looked kind of dorky.
-Originally they had the OICW in, which shows they originally wanted more realistic weapons to some extent but I don't know what happened to that idea.
-The alien weapons where all cool, even if the pulse rifle's clip was way too small.
-No iron sights in any sense -- a shame cus the SMG had a cool looking sight

*Resistance seemed to have a standard issue
-Hoped for more varied weapons amongst the resistance members; I do understand the only people they fought where Combine soldiers / policemen, but you would think there would be some salvaged rifles from what ever former military there was around. Even some improvised weapons would have rocked. (Pipe rifle FTW!)

*Same old super soldier inventory
-Was hoping for One primary, one secondary, and a grenades category for weapons loadout

*Limited arsenal
-Makes some sense because the most common soldier only toted the SMG or the pulse carbine. Like I said in the Resistance standard issue part, you would think you would find some stashed weapons in some of the resistance bases with the (normally dead) resistance members. Would have figured the AK47 would still be easy to get ahold of, along with some improvised weapons too.

*Resistance AI where too tough
-Had quite a bit of HP for a regular unprotected / unenhanced human.

*No way to flip things with grav gun
-Annoying when you knocked something over you needed to be the other way around.

Anyways thats the main things I wish where different. I had considered making a small mod for HL2 that would be about some things the resistance where up to, but that's currently beyond my coding skills. Maybe next year.

So what do you all agree / disagree with?

For me, HL2 is one of the best games ever made. Not only was the game itself awesome, but the game keeps on giving thanks to the sheer amount of mods available.

SMG is an MP7 with slight artistic licenseused. Its slightly longer and has a grenade launcher in HL2.

MP7:

HL2 SMG:

The pistol is a USP Match and is actually very accurately modelled (The SMG is accurately modelled, just they changed it for balance + grenade launching).

And to flip things with the gravity gun, pick it up and look up, then let go. It should flip over because it stays the same around your viewpoint, but it should change angle with the ground.

It's a science fiction fantasy - reality has no place in it tbh.
The one thing that would have made the game untouchable would have been the AI - the ingame hostile AI while adequete was not mind-blowing

Match ^^ It has a compensator on the front, and thats all I know, I think they're designed for competition shooting.

One complaint is that some of the weapons sounded kinda underpowered.

*Points at match*

I Find that HL2 was really made for the Modability and to Show the Engine off, The Story of HL2 i find deeply interesting, But HL2 is not a Reality, its just a generic Arcady FPS Game that has a Deep Storyline and Plot.

It was pretty fun but it was too short and the ending was lame.

HL1 black mesa was more fun imo and the AI in HL1 was better also. Can't wait for black mesa source.

I thoroughly enjoyed HL2 as was for the most part, although, I guess I get too stoned and jacked-up on caffeine when I play single player games and some of the "gravity gun only" levels really brought me down and irritated the crap outta me. Like the Sandtraps level where you have to meticulously avoid rousing the Antlions. Besides that and because I played FAR CRY at the same time...I coulda dug a less lineal and more free-roam style of gameplay.
