I disliked the "yeah, we came up with a reason why you can't touch the ground/water/sand, so you're going to have to use your gravity gun to make yourself a bridge thingy. Yeah, we know that you know about the gravity gun, but we like showing it off. Have fun doing this boring stuff!"

The story was actually pretty stupid, undeveloped, and nonsensical. First of all, WHY are you in eastern europe? Just a little while ago you were in or near Nevada at Black Mesa, so why are you in eastern europe now, and why is there no explanation of that fact?

For those would might say you aren't in eastern europe, then explain the architecture, the train style, and the eastern european (russian, polish, or something) words on the gas pumps and stuff at the gas stations somewhere in the country side.

What's going on with this combine, why don't they really explain where they came from or anything like that? It didn't feel like real life to me, it felt like some kind of dreamworld or simulation that was cooked up by the Gman, which to me is less interesting than if it was real.

Also a lot of the mapping really sucked. The big tower in the middle, and this one big highway tunnel for example, were no more complex than the mapping in HL1, a much older game. See Doom 3 for really awesome mapping.

Driving the boat around for so long got on my nerves, same with the car. The game certainly had its moments, like that zombie town with the old crazy guy was probably the best part of the game. But the rest of the game fails to have as much atmosphere. I liked HL2 and I thought it was a good game, but it wasn't without its flaws. Also the ending sucked, and the story was never explained very much at all, which was very disappointing to me.

I was frustrated with how much deviation the guns seemed to have, you fired them and they hit something almost a foot off, their cone of fire was worse than vBF2's

You are there because the G-Man deems you to be there. He has received a contract and is fulfilling it by using you. He spawns you on the train after you've been in stasis for so long and you go from there.

The general consensus is that it's not "realistic". It's a single player action game - what would be the point? It's not advertising realism, it's a great, action-packed game with an interesting plot, linear gameplay with great scripted sequences, amazing graphics/physics engines and backed up with some fun puzzles spread throughout the game. What's there not to like?

Because the Black Mesa Incident was 10+ years ago at the time of HL2.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

How can you not like Alyx? Shes a great character. Especially in Episode 1, as she accompanies you the entire time. Really great character, and a really great examples of how games can actually make you care about others, and interact with them to an extent. And who can forget her zombie impression?

Such a long development period for a piss poor looking game. Far Cry had it beat from the start as far as technology goes.
