Stuff you always wanted to know about germany

Hey there,

Ever since i started reading forums&such,i noticed that there are some horrible misinformations going around concerning Germany.

Some examples:

Austria and Switzerland are under jurisdiction of Germany.

Throwing with Stielhandgranaten(You know, those grenades with a handle which were used WW2)is still part of Physical Education

It is fobidden to speak the name of Adolf Hitler aloud in the open(!)

There are no other alcolohic drinks than beer

...and so on.

So as a german i would like to sort some things out,so please feel free to ask anything about Germany wha you want to know,or if you need something translated from/into german.

Besides,i want to use this as an excercise to polish my english,so please correct me if I make any mistakes,i will not flame you as an "spelling nazi"(which wouldn't be too smart anyway ).

If a German-speaking tree falls in a Germany, does it make an English sound elsewhere?

no, because it was a "deutsche Eiche"
Oaks are told to be the most german trees because they are so old fashioned and have such a hard wood
and yes i am german and no not all germans are nazis (only in east germany/former DDR they are)

What forums do you go on...? I've never heard anyone say that or type it out on a forum...

only partly. of course, there are some, but sadly as many nazis as communists. but that fascist problem doesn't seem to be an eastern german problem in particular :/

sadly true, but there are differnt kinds of nazis in east and west germany
in east you have manly those skinhead nazis (not to mix up, i have also skinhead friends but politikal on the communist side ) which are young and just want to beat every one else
in west germany there are more of the old silent nazis which are not to identivy when you see them on street
