You should give it another chance, it is without doubt one of the funniest British comedy's ever. They have started reshowing "Ripping Yarns" on BBC4 caught it last night, couldn't believe my luck as it was by pure chance having been talking about it in this thread!

Which one was it?
The parody of "The Monkeys' Paw" was a cracker.

What's French for deja vu?

IT also helps if you know what a "rotton Bourough" is and how the politcal and voting system worked in 18th century england. On top of that, it helps to know

With lines like this, how can....Just watch it again: "another gargantuan effort to move his drinks cabinet six inches closer to Berlin", "a war which would be a damn sight simpler if we just stayed in England and shot fifty thousand of our men a week.", how can you not love Black ADder.

History will and has never been so hilarious, truely the greatest break a student can get from the menotanies of a hist lesson about some god forsaken or packed period of butchary and no TV!

"because of the excellent Prussian rifle, the Prussians will never expect us to attack frontally"
Not Black Adder but some inspired Austrian General in the 60's

Well yea that's admititly quite witty fare, and the show maybe topically British although I don't really get topical American humour either. If a comedy show is based on cheeky humour adds a few sight jokes and some audible farts in unapropriate places, I consider it to be universal and it will appeal to me.

Also I'm in Eggenbergs camp as well; I leave the set off unless there's a good movie on and read a good book. Although I mainly read when I'm hung-over and since I don't drink anymore, my literacy level by default has descended into a deep dark dense dunce-like state of late....hence; I've morphed into being as the consummate FPS gamer.

There has to be some sort of law of the universe that says whenever someone tries to make something mature and/or dark and intense it just comes across as childish.
