Gah, guess it is just that I have a media class this semester at college. Our teacher is published with a non-fiction book and used to be a columnist for major canadian and English newspapers.

It was strange, although a reflection of todays society, that whilst studying Pulp Fiction (the movie) we could tell our teacher that the scene where Vincent and Mia turn up at the diner and her drawing of a "square" in the air to emphasise her 1950's style calling him a "square" would be seen by him, under the influence of drugs and "seeing" trails from her fingers as she draws the square in the air for his and our benefit.

The film is understandable and likeable by us Brits but some aren't. Once you've lived enough years on this planet and immersed yourself in enough media you start to get personal preferences but then a logical understanding of what works for you and why.

In my early youth I guess the film would have been great, but now at this point in life it isn't the same "glossy" experience for me.

Not at all. How else do you judge a film other than by the actions of the characters.
The fact is that British and American culture is very different, and things that appear perfectly natural to one culture appear discordant to another.

But I don't see any 'Americanisms' that would lead to someone thinking less about the film.

Not the patriotism side of things, but the conversations, characterisations and that sort of thing. They can be quite a turn off for English viewers.
So, you'd rather us depict American soldiers, and characterise them as something other than American?

I didn't know conversations could be American...

No, I'm simply saying that some films fall down to many people in other cultures simply because of those -isms relevant to anothers society.

They used the same type of sniperrifle as the US sniper and shot up some 3 or 4 scopes. They all hit but the glaswork and other parts of the scope made the bullet deflect and by doing so saving the snipers life.

if you want to watch it, its english translation and title in us and uk film stores and rental stores is 'brotherhood'

i have seen it, an absolute epic, something like 3+ hours and the best war film i have ever seen, granted SPR is a good film but brotherhood blows it out the water. plays on filmfour at midnight sometimes - where i watched it.
