WW2 was a definate though because the Nazis were trying to conquer the world, so we were willing to do whatever it took. After Vietnam though, all that changed especially with the whole preemptive strike thing/imperialism/democratizing/end-communism thing.

Your explanation is irrelevent, casualties have been very light any way you look at it. The only difference is will, and that is a matter of politics.

The americanisms that ruin the film or make it unsuitable watching for us euros? Maybe a US audience gets it better. Strange a lot of us find Taegukgi the far better movie over here in this region that Saving Private Ryan.

Maybe we should insist that everyone watches both movies back to back before coming back and posting any further

What Americanisms exactly? The film is hardly screaming 'Go AMERICA WE ROCK!!!!' at you.

Not the patriotism side of things, but the conversations, characterisations and that sort of thing. They can be quite a turn off for English viewers.

I might be wrong, but doesn't the film end with an american flag?

Anthony Lloyd, himself a former soldier in the British army and a Northern Ireland and Gulf War veteran:
"The men inside (the APC) might have been UN but they were playing by a completely different set of rules. They were Swedes; in terms of individual intelligence, integrity and single-mindedness I was to find them among the most impressive soldiers I had ever encountered. In Vares their moment had come."

That's a pretty strange basis when it comes to judging a film.

People shouldn't always take things at face value.

They could be interpreted as a salute to those who died, not to mention the movie is about an American squad, it's all about how the viewer interprets the images, if people are going to be narrow-minded then it's their problem, not mine.
