The only requirement for Mensa is that you be in the top 2% of the population intelligence-wise. Other than networking and something to put on your resume, there's really no point to it. There's meetings and activities and stuff, but put a bunch of people used to being the smartest person in the room together, and you've got a really awkward dynamic.
I wouldn't say it's shallow to join just for your resume. More utilitarian. Employers would be impressed, and that's all you really need.

I totally agree with what you're saying. Most people don't join for a bonus on the resume' though. I think most join to have a card in their pocket that they can whip out with the "neuronic-pride", lol.
I'm honestly biased though, due to an experience with the aforementioned girl. I don't see myself ever joining (and I honestly believe I could meet the requirements), because a card like that would make me feel shallow.
