Default Ahhh my computer is done!!

I came home to find that my PSU was dead. I tried all the tricks to get it to work, tried jump starting it etc. Nothing!! I have been without my home/gameing rig since last Thursday! Let me tell you it sucks, I didn't realize how much my Wife and I use the thing. I have been almost 6 days without PR, I have already had the shakes, headaches and have gained 10lbs

Luckily my PSU is a 3 yr old OCZ so it is still under warranty. I ended up ordering a new PSU and will sell the RMA'd one once I get it back. My wife went from saying just wait for the OCZ one to be fixed/replaced on Friday to yesterday saying buy a new PSU now, get the damn computer back ASAP!!

I seriously feel your pain brother. I believe my machine has reached it's "half-life" and everyday I crank it up I emit an audible sigh of relief when it whines and beeps on.

Some times in my haste and in the sequence of turning monitors, speakers, etc on, I neglect turning on the PSU and hit the "on" button...wtf?!?!?...then realize my error with a double sigh and a broad smile.

Yeah, mines getting that way too. Things have started crashing when they shouldn't and everything is getting waaaay dated now.

Looks like I've got a lot of saving up to do...

Why do you even bother turning off your PSU every time you turn off your computer?

I dunno I guess it's a personal idiosyncrasy. I like things off and tidy between uses. Plus I'm compulsive in that I may leave the house for a store run and not come back for a few days if I'm onto something keen and bouncy.

You know it's ironic Mafney that our machines are feeling age with Quake Wars and Crysis on the horizon. My last machine literally fried (smoke came billowing out) just prior to Doom3 and Far Cry's release.

Hopefully that wont be happening here, lol, I got a new PSU a few years ago but the graphics are pretty outdated, and the RAM has starting playing up but there... Im sure it will last another year but then its definately time for a new one, especially with Crysis, Unreal III etc. etc.

Thanks for the support guys. I hope my new PSU will be hear today Now is the time to upgrade for sure. If you can scrape together a bit of money you can build a pretty slick system for cheap. The price wars between AMD and Intel is great for us.

Make sure you guys are cleaning out those PC's!! The dust is a major killer for components. It can also help to generate extra heat in the system which can slow down your comp, cause crashes, and shorten the life of things. A clean PC is a happy PC

Yeah, did that today actually in a break between my revision. Nice and clean, need a case with some dustfilters though, would make life so much easier...

My case, an Antec, came with a built in removable filter, it helps allot but dust still gets in. You could probably make your own out of a piece of screen door or something similar. It won't stop all the dust but it will catch a fair amount.
