[Movie] '300' Reviewed

[NOTE: NO SPOILERS HERE.]

Okay, so just checked this one out. My early expectations of the previews were meek, didn't think it was going to be THAT good. First impressions def. did not do it justice. Ya like action? Check it out. Did ya see and enjoy 'Troy'? Check it out. Did ya see and hate 'Troy'? Then def. check it out!

I think 300 had a much better interwoven theme than Troy's 'loosely based real events'. 300 spits in Troy's face there as far as I'm concerned. It has action, loads of action, 117 minutes worth of it...

As opposed to my review of the psychological/emotional hooks that a movie like "Pan's Labyrinth" has, 300 has very few, BUT its genre is tailored for a slightly different audience. I think it is a really well done, visual feast...with oodels of graphic butchering to appease the masses.

Its just a great testosterone rush of awesomness, so go....check it out!

Oh yeah and....Spartan's OWN!

It was directed by the guy from Sin City right? That was an awesome movie and the graphic novel look of 300 had me interested right from the start. Getting a bunch of people together tomorrow to go see it.

Real history time (and the history is quite amazing)

The 300 were what was called a ‘sire only unit’.

A sire only unit was made up entirely of men who had already sired (read fathered) a son. Thus if they died in battle their son would one day grow to replace them in Spartan society.

I say ‘if they died in battle’ loosely, because a sire only unit was in fact a suicide unit. The missions that such units were sent on were to the death, it was not expected that any such unit sent on a mission would survive.

The Spartans were not the only city state to go and fight, there were quite a few others. The greatest sacrifice and most heroic support of the Spartans came from the Thespians.

After a lot of brutal fighting the professional soldiers from other city states either fled or made polite excuses to leave, they were not prepared to fight to the death. The Thespians chose to stay behind and guard the Spartans rear from attack. The Thespian force was very unusual, they were not soldiers at all, they were made up of ordinary men who led ordinary jobs in their own city (butchers, bakers, candlestick makers… you get the idea).

They, along with the Spartans, fought to the death and though being untrained and so much less effective in combat their loyalty and tenacious support won them such deep respect and admiration of the Spartans that they, who usually regarded others as inferiors, died shoulder to shoulder with them declaring them to be their brothers and vowing to fight at their side in the afterlife.

Yeah...the Battle of Thermopylae is greatly exaggerated. As stated above there where many more City states present on the campaign than Spartans.

Know what did the Spartans in? A farmer. A farmer they pushed around a bit too much so he told the Persians about the pass.

In fact based on the work (comics) of the same man, Frank Miller.

"Sin city" was Directed by: Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino

"300" was Directed by: Zack Snyder ("Dawn of the Dead" 2004)
tho Fran Miller is a co-producer

btw "Sin City 2" is in the works and should be out end of 2007- start of 2008. Can't wait

was a good movie and the battle scenes were just great, but it really disapointed me. The Graphic Nolvel was amazing, and they really didnt translate it into the movie well in my opnion. They added too much in the movie that miller had left out perpously in the graphic novel.

PS: the novel Hot Gates is great, and so is the 300 graphic novel, read them to see how they differ.

wow, just saw it.
amazing.

Edit-

Oh yeah...

Reality is what we take to be true. What we take to be true is what we believe. What we believe is based upon our perceptions. What we perceive depends upon what we look for. What we look for depends on what we think. What we think depends on what we perceive. What we perceive determines what we believe. What we believe determines what we take to be true. What we take to be true is our reality.
