Jokes aside they DO look different even though they are both suspension bridges. Wikipedia on the Öresund Bridge: Swedish language Danish site about the Store Baelt Bridge: Danish language You can't really tell from the picture of the Öresund Bridge that it is similar in design to a lot of housing areas that were built in Sweden during the 60:s. In the end, what it comes down to is personal opinion and I happen to dislike the Öresund Bridge. All I can think of to describe MY impressions of the Öresund Bridge is that it feels like a monument of bureaucracy... | |

Today the deal was made.
A 19 kilometres long bridge: between Denmark and Germany. Deadline 2018. Denmark has to pay for the entire bridge it self, Germany for the land facilities on the German side. So hopefully the EU will support with the promised 30 percent of the price! Otto Uwe Schmid, the German Mayer on Fehmern calls this day a black day in Fehmern history. He believes the bridge will create huge unemployment on Fehmern. Opinions? |

The estimated price will be around 5,5 billion Euros. But you know how its is, brigdes on that size always end up costing ...more.

Denmark pays for it, Germany and denmark builds it, Sweden and Germany are the ones making the biggest profit...

It might turn out to be the best deal for us in the end, though, Michael. Storebæltsbroen (bridge connecting Sjælland and Fyn) is paying itself back much faster than anticipated. The new bridge may turn out to be another money-making machine - and it will be us collecting the revenue.

There are already other projects like this and with knowledge of how they`re working i think it might be a flop in the end.
There are some already realized transit projects from Germany/Austria over the Alps to south Europe which all have flopped because the building costs where immense high and therefore are the tolls now. And as the transport companies don`t want to pay that tolls they use the streets and highways like they did before. It takes them some more time but is cheaper and that`s all they are interested in. |

Well, I hope people in Germany are beginning to see the possibilities in the connection, for German economy as well.
Things are on the move now: Femern A/S recommends R?dbyhavn as production site - Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link The output I hope will come out of this investment, is that at least one growth-corridor will emerge from the connection. Thereafter, I hope a new building project can emerge, namely the historical harbour-project, that will make use of the infrastructure the connection will create in the coming decades. That harbour will without any doubt be able to help European economy - even more than any other harbour facility in Europe. Maersk, this year, announced that they are going to build quite a lot, of new super-ships, for the future. Perhaps Maersk also see the connection between Denmark and Germany as a potential platform for a new trade-route cross the Antarctic, connecting Asia and Europe in a new way? Maersk orders largest, most efficient ships ever |
