long enough for one of the crew members to slip a rope around it's tail
Was that really fucking neccisary? First he endangered the lives of himself, the boat (costs alot of money) and the rest of the crew. Secondly, he's just gone and killed a shark for no apparent reason and is now parading it around, isn't that illegal to just do that? Seeing as sharks are fairly rare. Idiots these days. It's not a good catch, it's just dumb luck. The crew pulled a Homer.

yes, I believe that you are right. There are only 5 "fishing derby's" in Candian Waters all of which are "catch and release". There are rare instances that academic researchers will accompany the sport fishermen in the derbys to keep certain catches for scientific observation or dissection (which is the case in this example).. Reference but Canada, like other resource rich countries (i am sad to say), bows to the economics of the world when it comes to its natural resources. Doesnt matter what it is; water, fish, wood, rock (yes, even rock) if theres a customer, it will be cut, killed, or packaged, and eventually sold. That being said, we cannot confuse economic drivers with scientific driven attempts to balance lifecycles already impacted by human destruction, alas that is huge and very hot debate that I dont want to partcipate in.
