Certainly the most realistic sounding shootout ever lol.

Some of the things I really liked about this shootout:
- the sound: they're firing freakin' machineguns, not bb-guns, and I'm glad that for once, you can hear the difference
- no cars blowing up: in most other movies, there would be burned-out carwrecks everywhere, probably with one making a slow turn in the air and everything
- they don't try to take cover behind the doors: in most other movie shootouts I've seen, with cars involved, people use the car's doors as cover. For those who don't know yet: it won't stop a bullet (atleast not from one of those guns, I'm not sure about a 9mm pistol)

Finally, the way they appear to be using rudimentary tactics. At one point, DeNiro blazes away, while Val Kilmer repositions. Not something that I've seen in a lot of movies.

Heat is poor stuff, I'm sorry.

You need to rent Sam Pekinpah's Wild Bunch (director's cut) and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia. The shootout between Warren Oats and two suit clad CIA men where one gets shot and passionately kisses his gay lover good bye as he dies is classic.

btw, it was Penkenpah who invented the exploding blood bag in Hollywood...

The shootout in Heat was inspired by this.
Was that the shootout where the cops couldn't do shit with their service revolvers, so they went to a gun store nearby to get some proper assault rifles? Lol @ the commandos in shorts at the end.

But yeah, Heat rocked. I didn't see the end, as my Tivo cut it off right as De Niro runs away from his girlfriend after leaving the hotel, and Al Pacino's running after him with a shotgun. Don't anybody ruin it for me! But yeah, that scene rocked. And as some comedian said, "what guy hasn't wanted to run through the streets downtown with a carbine shouting GO GO GO!?" Too bad then he dropped the subject and started talking about wanting a feces slinging monkey.

For the guy that asked, no the whole movie's not like that, but it's still all great. You should check it.

I love at the beginning of that scene, as soon as Val Kilmer sees the cops, he doesn't hesitate or say anything, he just raises his weapon and starts spraying.

As far as shootouts in movies you can't beat Blackhawk Down.

Thanks luizinhuu for the find

Yes, BH Down was definately one of the top action movies of all time. One extended action sequence. And it really conveyed the realistic, "where the fuck are they shooting from" aspect of war. And they used suppressing fire and stuff, which most action movies just don't do.

I hate badly done action (like Mr. and Mrs. Smith and such). I just don't see why a production company would approve something like that. What's their target audience? People that like action movies would probably rather see *good* action, no?

Ever see Ronin? That had a great car chase scene through Paris.

All you BHD fans have just got to get hold of a dvd of Taegugki, a south korean forgotten war movie. It's sort of on a level with Saving Private Ryan fx wise, has the full emotional range and lots and lots of fighting and killing.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386064/

It has to be number one war movie in my book!
