So I Need a New Processor/MOBO

Well I used to kinda know this but I forgot everything. How hard is it to buy a new processor? As in, what is compatible with what? Do I just have to match the compatibility between the processor and the motherboard? Or is everything pretty much universal? (besides the processor)(and besides AGP and PCI-E) For example, I wouldn't have to buy a specific motherboard to match my hard drive right?

I need the mobo for the PCI-E and the new processor for kicks. And everything is for armed assault

I think you are on the right track.

And crawley is right, though I'm using an AMD at the moment. I think I'm going to change to Nvidea video card and intel in 2 years.

If you can afford to go Conroe then Intel is the way to go but if not, stick with AMD. Nvidia card's have better driver's (in my opinion) but ATI will give you better image quality and generally better performance depending on the card.

Yes, I have two system's, one on Nvidia, one on ATI....not bias!

If your not certain on compatability, you could always pick up a motheboard/memory/CPU bundle. I think alot of places do something similar. Alternatively, you could post a budget and we could all go looking for you and bring back a spec.

Well, I'll say probly about $800 for ram, card, mobo, and processor. I made a shopping cart with an AMD X2 3800, nvidia 8800 gs, 2 g-unit (or something lol) 1 gig ram sticks, and a $90 ASUS mobo.

Does ATI have a competitor to the 8800 yet?
