Overheating monitor - am I insane?

Do monitors overheat? Seriously, because I think its whats causing problems with my shiny new PC.

Right, I have my brand spanking new base unit running through (drum roll) a Gateway EV700 from 1997/8.

My question - Is the monitor the source of my troubles? It is just too geriatric to cope with the new games, because I really cant think of any other possible reason for my problems.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

LOL, and yes I think they can check their is adequate space for cooling also check whether the response time on that monitor is 11ms or below.

Yes, monitors most certainly do overheat. One almost caused a fire in my home, but we unplugged the thing when we located where the smell of burning plastic was coming from.

Well, what kind of problems you have then? Monitors don't cause problems, they are problems, but it doesn't matter what HW you have, monitor won't overheat because you have a brand new GX2 or whatever

Seriously, I've seen some LCD displays overheating (to point of image corruption), but never a CRT. Old CRT's have very crappy image quality and they can't stand high resolution, but they hardly break.

E: You mean it's on fire?!! Or just overheating and creating artifacts?

Overheating then turing its self off and refusing to come back on or freezing the screen - it hasnt caught fire (yet).

I think it must have some kind of kill switch to stop it utterly kaploding, but it makes it so I have to continually restart, save games every 5 mins, etc...

I think it must be getting hot because of the high resolution, ah well... To the Time Machi.... I mean... er... computer shop.

One of my monitors fried itself though we were never sure why. All of a sudden a puff of very odd smelling smoke came out and then our monitory never worked again.

You're insane. No, J/K, I didn't expect this. I have a Gateway monitor from the same era. Although, we never use it too much, and we never really connected it to a good computer, it's working fine, despite having been magnetised by my cousin. Twice.

.

Under normal circumstances, everybody pwns Griffon, in Soviet Russia, Griffon pwns EVERYBODY!
