New GPU, opinions wanted as can;'t figure which to get

pci-e only boys and girls! and the first mention of core 2 duo will get you a wet kipper in the face

Got two I am looking at right now and can't understand why the sapphire x1950pro 256meg seems to bench higher than most 7900gs cards i've seen even though its pretty cheap, although this particular 7900gs is a special overclocked one.

i have the sapphire x800gto2 256meg now unlocked and clocked to x850xtpe speeds (16 pipes, 540/590) scoring on 3d mark 05 at 6440, with venice 3000+ oced to 2249mhz and 2 gigs of pc3200

i'm getting a 4000+ san diego on friday along with one of these two cards but need plus's and negatives pointing out as I can't figure it out.

I have a nVidia 7800GT, works very well id say something a little newer than that should work nicely.

As for Dx10 cards ive no idea why anyone would want to buy one now let alone any time next year the price of getting a card + Vista Pro/ultimate (which you'll need for gaming MS said) then you'll need at least 3GB of ram and a very good dual core (at least) processor. like i said no point.

7900 GS is the slowest of 7900 series. Right now Radeon X1950 (512MB?) looks (most) promising. I don't know why there's no 7900 GTO in the UK, in right now if you would by a card in Finland, if you only find a 7900 GTO somewhere, it's the only real option. Same price as X1950 or 7900 GS, but it's basically downclocked 7900 GTX and it has 512MB memory. Looks exactly same as GTX, same cooler, same desing, same card. After a bios flash just as fast. GTO is only available by evga and MSI.

yeah, the sites i'm using to buy online, Microdirect and overclockers only have limited range or cards. I don't want to spread out purchasing across lots of sites and therefore get stuck with the increased postage costs. ebuyer.com has gone right downhill recently on stock. There is Dabbs but that is somewhere i've never bought from personally.

overclockers has a few cards with aftermarket type fans on, zalman, arctic and some no-name branded one.

high end gto's I definitely haven't seen around for purchase and that is strange.

I suppose i ought to get the sapphire 1950pro 256meg card since I trust the brand, the benchmarking is higher than most listed 7900gs' and the price is good, although the 512meg overclocked galaxy 7900gs i am looking at is rather interesting still.
