The choppers are a bit slow ( but i am just happy with the speed ). i think the reall problem with choppers is the amount of power you need to get it off the gound. let me explain...
*see chopper get in and take off*......*fly along nice and low*..then all off a sudden... OMG tree * jam finer down on w to try and get some higth*......*too slow and hit the tree*..... if that made any sense i'm sure some of you would agree..... like iv'e said before you have to think like 3 turns ahead in order not too hit that tree in the distance.... |

Flying low in BF2 chopper = no no. Then you're just asking for death, weather it be a tree or a plane. If you launch flares or chaff or whatever from that altitude it goes right into the ground and you take the missile. Your best bet is to fly high, and when you hear beeping start running, if it goes to the tone drop flares and get outa there.

ive gotten used to the super responsive DesertCombat choppers so the first time i got in a BF2 chopper i pushed hard forward at takeoff (which works fine in DC) and i took the chopper nose to the carrier deck right over the side of the carrier and straight into the water. also when im on an attack run i almost always end up upside down into the ground, i hardly think super cobra attack choppers are that slow to respond to a hard pull back on the stick.. then again ive never flown any kind of helicopter but id think it would be a bit more responsive

i have my heli sensitivity at like 6 right now, and that makes the heli alot more responsive... although i have ot agree, i find myself pulling back on my mouse like crazy (the entire length of the mouse pad 3-4 times) and i still go nose first into obsticles) wtf is that? personally i like the helis from POE the best (i never played the DC versions)

POE is similar to DC except better i think, more solid. id like to see POE type chopper controls
by the way i dont know how you do it with a mouse... all i am used to is a joystick |

ive never had a joystick but when i get a job, im definatly going to invest in one.... well after im done fixing up my computer.
but yeah i use a mouse, i rarely fly jets in POE, because if im up against someone with a joystick, im done 90% of the time, mouse pads just arent big enough. but for helis, im just as good maybe better then most heli pilots ive been up against =) |

I use a mouse and keyboard on sensitivity setting 1 and find it fine. Instead of flying over trees roll to one side and fly around them like that. The only problem is jets as they shoot you down as soon as look at you

well thats why youre given flares, which i think need to be limited to a certain ammount, a plane/heli cant spit out an infinite amount of flares
keef i started playing bf1942 with just the keyboard, and DC choppers i also played with keyboard and was halfway decent. even so once i got my hands on a joystick there was no comparison at all. if its any help to you while shopping for a stick i have a logitech attack 3 stick, as i remember it was fairly cheap and it works very well, pleny of buttons around your thumb to set for flares, secondary fire, even parachute |

One example - they can not dodge left, then quickly dodge right again at nearly 90* angles to the ground, doing this would probably cause your mast to break of, or a wingdrop stall. Have you ever seen video's or pictures of helicopters getting locked on (or shot at) by an enemy? They might do slow turns, gain altitude left and right, movements similar to that of a fixed wing aircraft. The only movements in my oppinion that can be this aggressive would be the pedals. Also, for a helicopter to completely stop from (i saw a speed of 260 in the HUD) 260km/h i'm guessing, would require a progressive flare probably no less than a 200m length, slowly tightening it up at the end. Not 5m, anymore then you start going backwards? no no no. But anyway, I could beat and batter it for hours, picking all the little things that are wrong with em. | |
