New PC's/obsolete pc's
Do any of you guys have any idea when you'll buy your next pc? I was planning to just upgrade my current pc with a dx10 graphics card when they came out but I'm starting to think that's not worth it. With games like crysis and alan wake coming out my p4 3.2ghz 1gb ram max just isn't worth upgrading any more. I'm going to toss maybe $700 into a already fattening savings acount and maybe when I get it up to $2k I'll blow it all on a sweet high end PC with quad core next summer.
The thing that kind of bothers me though is how fast technology is getting better. For example, I got my laptop a few months ago with a core duo processor. A few weeks later core 2 duo comes out; a few months from now quad core processors will kill these. Will there be an 8 core processor on sale by the end of next year? A 16 core a few months after that? It was bad enough earlier when a computer would be obsolete after maybe a year or two, now it might be a matter of weeks. |

No matter how long you wait or what you buy, give it a few months and your system is nothing anymore. The best money spent is in the mid range components. You get better performance per £££ and it doesn't hurt as much when your GFX card gets knocked off top spot 3 weeks later.

One thing you can always count on is that computers age FAST! I have a nice big case that's pretty easy to upgrade so im moving to 3 gigs RAM soon and I'll be getting a dx10 card once they are out. It seems to me that upgrading (if you know where to get your parts) is cheaper if you can work the new parts in with your other ones.

you should build your own and the whole quad core thing is still about a year away and prob 3 years away from mainstream market-they will milk duo as long as possible...just build an AMD 4800+ build with asus MB and like 2 or 4 gigs ram (corsair XMS), f**k ddr2 just wait for ddr3, and SLI (dual Nvida cards) you can build something like this for only 1500-2000 dollars US and thats not too bad for what youre getting and its gonna be a hella lot cheaper and better than the equal XPS or some sh*t like that. | |
