Sounds interesting, what about pathes on non english OS like german where: C:\Programme\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\ (XP) is default ?!?

@Devs - not bad to have more installing alternatives

i'm still interested in doing a non installer version if you want me to...(just a reminder)

@ Gomimin & Oddsodz: we're interested in what you're doing an your offers are much appreciated.

we're still struggling with our core build atm but as soon as we've got a decent version and time to concentrate on the new installer we'll get back to you, ok?

@ oddsodz

First off let me say thanks for looking into this matter...

The first problem I can see with this way of installing is that the end user won't have an installer saved safely on their computer somewhere so if he/she has to reformat or something goes wrong somewhere then they will have to download it all over again (pain in the ass)

Next thing is... does this installer find where BF2 is installed as my new installer will find it wherever it is through the registry... for example mine is installed in H:/BF2.

When pr_sp_08 is released there will be no need to copy the levels folder from the PR folder anymore as I have found a way of using the client files from the PR folder....(this will also save space on the HDD) also the init.cons will not need to be re-installed anymore as they will all be correct in the new pr_sp_08 map packs and was only a temp thing anyway.

Also the correct shortcut will be placed on the desktop/start menu in the new version.

The other problem I can see with your downloader/installer is that you want to included all the maps with the core files... this will make it a huge download which will not go down too well with a lot of peeps... so I think it's best to carry on with a separate core and map packs and then the end user can download them at their leisure, also some peeps don't want all the maps so doing it this way they can download what they want.

So to sum up I don't think this type of installer will work for us.

Very good point. Can't fault that one. You could always build both and give the end user the choice of both installers. Mine being the "quick and easy install" or yours the "Save it for latter" version. In fact that would be the best of both worlds.

Not at this time. But I can code that if need be. Fancy pasting that part of your code along so I don't have to go look it up?

And that is why I came up with this idea for a installer. To save new none computer minded player the hassle of downloading 2 separate installers and maybe getting lost along the way as to why the MOD is not working.

The end user is going to have to download them anyway at some point. So might as one do it all in the one go and get it over with. My installer will stop and start downloading from where it left off. That's the beauty of torrent hashing. You don't get corrupted downloads.

But as I said above. Having them both would not be a bad thing.

Anyway. The offer is there.

Good luck with it.

you need the client.zip from the mp folder (pr/levels/operation_archer).

that'll be fixed for the new mappacks.

If you are running the beta pr_sp_08 then you will need the new init.cons for the maps that come in that post
