Re: Do you defend VCP?

Its only worth defending if the insurgents know that theres a bunker inside. But its fairly easy to advertise with a couple of sandbags and/or razorwire outside.

Lol gonna be lovely to defend it in 0.8 with these pretty .50 cals. Uh oh

Never argue with an idiot, he will just drag you down to his level and beat you by experience

Re: Do you defend VCP?

since one squad can hold it, especially with one apc, and given teh fact that their tickets are far less likely to be lost the vehicle is not being wasted

Respect the R-Staff, they are pretty...pretty badass

Its only good if theres a small amount of guys doing it. If its half or all of the team, theres no way youll win.

but also for these reasons

1) It provides a safe reload point for vehicles
2) Its a fall back position for any squad running from teh city
3) Insurgents just VCP and can't help but attack it, taking forces away from the caches
4) Thanks to aforementioned insurgent obsession with VCP, the VCP generates intel from killing the attacking insurgents
5) It is a sniping spot which can be used to great effect in the hands of a skilled player (I forgot his name but I had an awesome Italian in that squad who picked up the sniper kit of a dude who killed 3 civis lol)
edit- forgot these
6) There is a chance you can keep teh VCP bridge up and clear of IEDs
7)

The problem with defending VCP is that you need to have a 50cal ready to take their cars down, as the m249s have limited fields of fire.

If you have a coherent plan of what to do to counter each insurgent attack tactic, you can hold VCP all round; not necessarily with ease, but you won't lose many tickets compared to intel points if you do it right.

What they do

1) Get close and use molotovs/smoke (what I do is get my guys to teh NW corner and nadespam them back, civis may die, but its do or die time)
2) They get on the hesco barrier and shoot over (thats the hardest one to stop imo, gotta tap a grenade over teh barrier once you've found him), If a grapple hook arrives, nade the area on your side if they are already over, otherwise camp it.
3) RPG snipe you (upside is they probably aren't next to the hesco if this is happening, but if that is happening, don't get on the guard towers, only the hesco barrier and medic must stay in one of the bunkers under the towers ready to revive anyone who gets caught in an explosion
4) Rush with Cars, counter with m249s/LAT and 50cals (if the blue mob don't steal them all)
there's no point now that the insurgent team can't actually capture the VCP

that's sort of why I would like the DEVs to put that feature back in the game because frankly, the battles over the VCP kicked ass.

No point in defending VCP. Sure, you may take insurgent defenders away from the caches, but you are also taking your men away from searching for the caches and extra resources and giving the insurgents an inlimited amount of kills if you have a bunker there. You are basically defending ground worth nothing. I don't think I have seen the UK win while defending VCP in this version, ever.

I guess people are missing its true potential as a perfect forward base. You got a dominant overwatch position on the Oil Facility, North of the city, West Village, North Desert, the Airport entrance and all of the major routes. Small barrier entrances to north and south and 360 degrees of open ass ground to be crossing to even get near it. The point isnt to defend it but to operate out of it to manually search for the weapons dumps. Such a strong position allows you not to be as isolated which is the main reason the British lose forces and assets.

I think it is actually very important, and only can see it growing more important. The VCP allows for soldiers to respawn and return to the city faster than waiting so far away back at the airbase and across those bridges which are easy to ambush or destroy. Plus it is much easier to defend than a base within the city limits. A set of two-three guys can actively protect it easily enough.

It has limited overwatch potential though because of the view distance. And once you are inside VCP, you are pretty much trapped because the insurgents will occupy the village South of it near the Mosque, and all the buildings and small villages around it. You pretty much trap yourself inside and it is horrible as a point to operate out of because you have to cross open desert to make it to the city or the spots where the caches are found.

You have RPs for that too. Going from VCP to city is 10x harder than your own squad's RP in the city or elsewhere because you have to cross open desert to get to any spot where a cache will respawn and the insurgents have the advantage of high ground near the village and city.
