Even if you did the map, I doubt the devs would agree to put it in the levels download.
Thinking about the chaos, and I doubt that servers even would have it on their list :P

Now I could agree with around 3 aircrafts per side, 1 reason is that makes aircrafts much more vital and valuable than you just die and take a new one. And it wouldn't become a training map when it wasn't supposed to be.

Add 2 fighters and 1 gunship.. And perhaps 2 transports incase you want to invade the island.
(Know you are thinking "Omg's noh! I want a10!! und die frogfoot) .. Okay I am not a good mind reader but, that island is just not well suited for laser targeting for a10 if you think about it.
I want dogfighting, not bombing. 10 fighters per side is perfectly reasonable really. I mean on Kashan you don't get mass chaos with 6 tanks per side.

And really, this is Project REALITY, in reality air supremecy is what wins the day, so I don't think it would be too unrealistic to have large scale dogfights between carriers if two super powers ever clashed. So yeah, diversity is what keeps mods alive and running, as mentioned we have infantry maps, and we have tank maps. Now we need air maps.

Re: Air maps?

You could also do a 16 player version with fewer jets per side, but still a really big map.

It would be cool if two-seater planes could be implemented as well. Something could be done to make having a copilot valuable (similarly to how tanks are at a disadvantage when one-manned).

I was watching this thing on the Military Channel yesterday called "Wings: Red October" where squads of various NATO F/A-18 Super Hornet pilots went up against some German pilots (flying MiG 29s and Eurofighters) for a simulated dogfight exercise. There were large numbers on both sides in order to simulate a battle between world powers.

I wish something like this could be implemented in PR.

If you made a map over the water (ie - a modified Wake), the mapper could set the view distance a little farther, since there wouldn't be much on the ground that would have to be rendered.

Anyways, I'm all for this!

Lol, I can just picture a 64 player server, full to the max. On a naval battle map with only water, carriers, maybe a sub or battleship. Drivable since you wouldn't have to worry about running aground and crashing the server. And all over head you have like, 25 fighters vs 25 fighters. With a few people manning AA guns n the like. God that'd sure be somethin.

you mean THIS Wake Islan Remake?
YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

I would be a great map if the USMC would get F-18s and (in the future)F-35s if they are created, while the PLA(AF) would get the J-10 and the Q-5 or SU30 opr some other PLA jet they should bring back in.

Which reminds me....what happened to the Q5 Fantan???
It was in 0.6 Beta, but now its just gone....it could carry 4 LGBs what happened?

Colt has the right idea, ships and planes, we've got all kinds of Infantry/Tank maps, I want some Naval/Air combat!

Re: Air maps?

Ships would be cool, but a predominately air combat would be easily doable in the near future!

Well, I doubt it'd be too complicated to import some destroyer models and give us controlable ships with like, missile launchers. Like the sub from NAW, only in ship form. And to give us static aircraft carriers with planes. Missile barrage! Bwuahahahaha

Re: Air maps?

Yeah, but I think the point of the OP was mainly concerned with air combat. And if we forget about the ships (granted, I'd LOVE to see naval combat), then we could get a quality air combat map much more quickly.

The BF2 also is never good with collisions on moving vehicles. In BF1942, you could walk on a ship while it was in motion, but in BF2, it registers as you being hit. It sucks, but that's just how the BF2 engine is. It's the same reason why you can walk around in the Ju87 in FH1 for BF1942, but you can't in the one in FH2 for BF2.
