Default Commander Asset placement (DEV question)

We need some kind of secrets tip on placing Commander assets. I understand bunker/firebase placement and AA as intelligent placement of those make sense. Don't place them on rocks or walls as they end up being 2 stories high. AA has a wide footprint and placing it near higher objects may place it also 2 stories tall in the air.

However when it comes to sandbags and razor wire, while I can get them placed in the general spot I want them, I can't place them exactly where I want them. For example Govt Office on Qwai River. Against those entrance ways to the north into the flag cap area. I've tried all sorts of techniques to get razor wire to sit against the wall so no one can walk through that area. However 4 out of 5 times it gets put slightly forward or "on top" of the wall. I have tried using zoomed in iron sights/scope on the ground to place exactly but that also doesn't seem to work.

Is there some kind of secret I'm missing?

Additional Tips:
- After placement of object move backwards NOT forwards. Object may spawn on top of you otherwise and kill you immediately.
- Commander don't forget to place your Command Unit before moving on. Nothing worse than placing that thing in the middle of a hot zone because you forgot to do it earlier.

It would be nice if we could get like a shadow of the object we want to place so we can see exactly where it will be spawned. Not sure if this has been suggested but do you guys think something similar is possible?

Like:
  • Select your 'spawnable object' from the commo rose
  • Shadow appears with the size of the object
  • Player is still able to move around with the shadow and look for a good spot to fit the object
  • Player presses fire to spawn object

Not sure if the engine will allow this though, but admit it would be nice .

I would like to know the radius that the assets are going to be occupying, so that I do not place them on top of teammates and or myself.

Thanks

Occasionally people are going to get dropped on, that's just kinda life. Try to be clear about where you're placing deployables, and people should pay at least some amount of attention to where the commander is pointing when a big message pops up saying "Firebase being Deployed" or somesuch. If a shadow could be made on the ground that would be pretty awesome, but overall I think that a decent amount of care reduces casualties to a very bearable level. Especially considering they're just going to go get shot anyhow.

About Govt Office on Qwai River, i have seen ppl that made it perfectly to block the entrance.

So its possible, but i dont know how

Anyway, the shadow thingy would be awesome !

So basically, from the replies, there is no real skill in placement to set it exactly where you want it. You just have to place it close to where you want it and hope for the best?

Could I get a word on this from the Developers of the Mod? There has got to be some way to place something exactly where you want it.

For example if my iron sight is on the ground will the object get placed with the back edge on the iron sight or will the front edge be placed on the iron sight or will the middle of the object be placed on the iron sight?

Does the angle of the object change if I move after I click the mouse button to place it and before it is spawned?

That much I hope the developers could at least explain since it's not like it's giving away any secrets of the game. Just a more detailed explanation of placement would be helpful. Pretty Please.

Cheers.

I think it just appears a specific distance in front of you, no matter how far up the ground you're looking. It's like 1.5 meters or something.

Oh? Hmm. Anyone else want to test this and see if angle of view matters at all?

I'm pretty sure it makes no difference whether you're looking at the sky, at your (nonexistent) toes or straight forward.

Now you can see I've taken a hit to my head. It's nothing serious, but I am bleeding badly.
