It saddens me to see a thread called SNOBS, posted by frustrated on-and-off PR player who is tired of being called names for being a newbie. Sadly, the man is right. I mainly play on a certain European server (cough THORS BRIGADE cough) run by understanding and helpful admins, but even there the noob-bashing is present like on any other public server. When a noob asks a question à la the infamous "what's the shovel for?", most always they will get a quick and accurate answer, though some players (including myself I gotta admit) cannot bite their tongue and will say "to dig your own grave" etc. (Yes , hilarious to you and your squaddies, but not helpful and really off-putting for the newbie!)
We all love PR, right? We all started at some point, right? And we fucked up more than a few times when we did, right? So stop acting like you are Delta Force operators and get your heads out of your asses, people. You are playing with real people with real emotions. PR is not Army bootcamp and don't you dare tell me or the newbies to harden the fuck up or similar. "RTFM" or "go back to vanilla" are not appropriate responses to understandable questions like "why can't I get in the turret of a manned tank?" (you've got to be in the same squad as the tank driver). Thus I propose the "Adopt a Newbie" program. I call all experienced squad leaders to keep one slot open for a newbie each round, and start teaching those new players instead of ostrisizing and cursing them. Project Reality, magnificent as it may be, will never grow if the newbie experience does not change for the better. It is our duty to educate players and share the great fun we are having playing PR with new players! Newbies: by all means, read the manual, but don't be afraid to ask questions. You will find me and many others like me on the above mentioned server most weekdays. |

The way I see it, if you can't be bothered to spend a few minutes reading the manual why should I spend a few of my minutes answering all of your questions?
Yes we all started at one point, and do you know what the first thing I, and I assume many others did? Had a quick look at the manual to see what was new and to find out how it worked, didn't take long at all. |

lol, Thors Brigade, I went MEC commander on Ejod and once I realized, Im not going to get any support, I became one-man army and ended up with the first place
One time, a US squad near Ruins popped smoke everywhere, so you couldnt see shit, I was a medic, switched G3 to full auto, went in firing like mad, reload, fire more, go out, reload again and wasted 3 clips and a whole squad |

I actually enjoy newbies, not noobs,
newbies are always wanting to learn where are noobs only wanted "to test out the M95" then they TK you. Having a newbie in my squad is ok by me, as long as their now assholes i dont care, They learn more by being with an experienced SL than reading any damn Manual. Because when they get on a server and say "hey guys heads up im a newbie" I would prefer to hear the SL say "hey yeah just tell me what you know so far, remember read the manual it will make your life much easier" than "ok noob first thing RTFM; what no you noob dont destroy the spawn cars" That happened to me once and i told him, "dude yeah i usually hate Tking but if i see you drive another spawn car as a suicide car, im going to do it " (joking manner). I like this idea and hopefully it will catch on. ER909 |

Unless there are loads of us on and we have a squad full of iGis on, we welcome anybody to join our squads. Don't really care for newbies who just join squads to become snipers, then disappear across the other side of the map.
I don't mind answering a couple of quick questions just to help out, but anymore and it gets a bit tiresome especially if you are in the middle of a good fight. There have been some great newbies join recently, some that are good on VOIP and learn quickly, so I don't have any problem with those joining ours squads. Now noobs on the other hand can stay away. |
