And there was me thinking the point of this thread was to cut back on newbie bashing? :P

I have to excuse myself for swearing on newbies a lot and telling them to rtfm in the last weeks, if I'm playing with my heart and soul and if new guys just keep on fucking up/asking stupid questions(from my point of view)/use leet speak too much - I may often have been wrong. The fact is I've really had some bad experiences from newbies being rude to me after politely answering their question and then asking them to take a look in the 0.6 desktop manual, like "shut the fuck up noob" or teamkilling me after it! I will try to calm down or ignore new guys if they are not politely asking from now on.

I think it's important that people recognize the difference between "newb" and "noob".
Newbs can be a lot of fun, especially on smaller servers. That's where it seems that tactical movement, etc. has the greatest effect, and so when newbs see how effective your tactics are, they're very keen to learn and follow orders. Noobs on the other hand really suck. Like the guy the other night who 1) Yelled at me for not telling him about the person putting C4 on the APC he was soloing, despite the fact that I was spot-spamming the guy, firing at him (and the APC, in the hope that that would make it turn around) and typing constantly in the squad chat in all caps. When I explained I had done all of the above, he says "WhyTF didn't you use your VOIP?". I explained that I had just gotten off an 18 hour string of flights from Tanzania and was too tired to go looking for my mic, he started telling me that you had to had to have a mic for PR and that I'd "always be a noob if I didn't use a mic". 2) Argued endlessly with me saying that there was going to be laser sights for pistols in 0.7. 3) Took a spawn car, drove it away from its hiding space supporting the village we were defending, and drove it straight into the enemy main base. Then he sat in the driver seat so it couldn't be moved. Then he drove away, straight into an enemy squad, leaving it (with me in the passenger seat). I drove it back to where it should have been in the first place, and started a kick vote. He started saying that *I* had done it, and that *I* should be kicked. 4) Drove over my mines, punished, and then said I had shot him because he hadn't given me a ride (I wasn't even in the same area at the time he drove over my mines). All in the space of 3 rounds. These kinds of players should not be playing PR. It's not a matter of "teaching them the right way" or anything like that. They're just asshats, and may their hard-drives crash. |

Alright - tried it out. One newbie at the time... and it works!
Well... he said he wasn't a newbie but I think we did pretty good job finding his way into this beautiful game ![]() |

maybe it works when all veterans go on one side, leaving the newbs on the other.
maybe they will sort out themself. fellows will stay and try to fight at all cost, having a good training experience. noobs start moaning and will finally leave. |

Just to reiterate what Wasteland said:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75zj4c55FOM This is being a noob-thankfully this was on vBF2 and not on PR, where servers are tightly admined. The title is actually quite fitting, don't you think? 'BF2- what's with my mind?' These are people who have serious issues with their social lives, and simply can't get along with anyone. I kid you not- this sort of thing wasn't happening a year ago( at least, I never came across someone with mental problems in my time with the game), even in vBF2. Then there is a newbie, often referred to as a newb. A person who is simply new to the game, wants to learn, and with a little help, can learn. Not everyone reads the manual, and things are often easy to forget in game. We were all 'newbies' once.... ...and some people just don't understand that. |

There are however the occasional exception who you can see knows what he's doing but missed out on some info in the manual, and I'm glad to help those persons out. Even so, I think it would be a good idea to advertise the guide more. I just now went to realitymod.com and clicked my way to the download mirrors. Not once did I get informed about the guide apart from the link at the top. In my opinion there should be big red signs everywhere pointing new people to the guide, and notes about it included in every release announcement. | |

Would you play any game w/o reading the rules ?
Would expect to walk onto a basketball court and start asking questions as you travel and double dribble ? Did you buy BF2 and not look at the manual to see what keys do what ? Tactical advice, strategic advice ....those things the vets must provide because they are not in the manual but the shovel ? I have no sympathy for people who don't bother to even glance at the guide. And, please, don't tell me there isn't enough notice of a guide, if you are that dumb that you don't notice a new desktop item when you installed the game, what possible solution is there ? "these are real people with real emotions"...............gimme a break |
