Scoring system? Who cares?
I am very confused as to the scoring system. Today I was playing Ejod desert. I was in a squad of 6 and as usual the MEC was slaughtering the US. Not really into the map, I went AFK for about 5 minutes. I had a score of 0 kills, 3 deaths, 76 global points and 76 "teamwork" points. What? I'm about to start playing when someone calls me on the phone and I talk for 20 minutes (The MEC were just bombarding gas station at this point so I didn't really care). I noticed that my squad had scores about equal to mine, and I didn't fire a shot, or move, or drive, or walk, or even drop an ammo bag (Yes you get points for that). The round ends and I got in 8th place with 224 points. Ok good story but heres the problem.
I play a round on Kashan desert. I'm having a party with an F-16 (The MiGs were new or something). I fire a few missiles at a large gathering of infantry killing 10. I make a few passes and get a few more. I'm feeling pretty good about this until I look at my score and see that I've got 27 global points with 13 kills and 0 deaths. I didn't recall teamkilling as I had started a few minutes prior and my teamwork points were at 0. Um... It took all of my concentration and focus to get 27 points, but a few rounds before I got 224 points by being afk for 30 minutes. Which did more? Doing literally nothing or potentially ending several firefights allowing my team to move to an objective undeterred? What is wrong with this picture? Isn't your global score supposed to reflect how effective an asset you were? When I'm flying transport choppers I seriously get a point every time someone gets into the chopper. Like support is nice, but isn't the idea is to actually kill the enemy? Like I can't think of a time when my team won while killing the enemy less. The score right now is not reflective of the difficulty of the task performed. Killing a tank for example is a lengthy procedure, risky, often results in repeated deaths, means that a squad member (engineer or HAT) can no longer inflict serious damage to personell (especially enemy riflemen), not to mention hitting a tank at long range with HAT is still hard against moving objects. But killing tanks gives you the same amount of points as a rifleman dropping ammo bags. In fact, usually less because the HAT may end up dying a few times before the tank is dead. Oh and I really do appreciate riflemen who actually give ammo (especially to the HAT and engineers). But lets be honest. You just want the scope don't you? Ok heres my idea. Killing any vehicle, even empty ones should give you points. If I kill a tank and the crew escapes, did I help my team? Yes. Did I actually have to risk a little bit? Yes. The crew might escape, but thats still one tank down. Killing a tank when under fire is something that they give infantry medals for IRL. Shooting down a plane or chopper should give you a pretty significant number of points, especially to MANPADS or AA vehicles. Killing empty vehicles also gives the rather superfluous Special Forces kit a bigger incentive to stop being front line infantry and start being special forces. |

I'm feeling this
also irritating that you get punished for losing an asset no matter how good you used it ( length of usage) or how you lost it like being tk. |

caboose, right now everytime a squad member makes a score, you will get 25% of it just for being in the squad. That's where all your points came from.
About the jet kills, that's when threat and worth comes in. Those soldiers in the ground weren't a threat to you, so you don't get a lot of points just for killing them in a jet. Now, if a soldier kills a tank, the tank is much more of a threat to the soldier, so the soldier gets a lot more points when killing it. A lot of tweaks on the scoring system for the next patch was made. For example: - Squad members will only get 25% of the score if they are 50m close. So if you stay afk in the base you wont get points. - Destroying vehicles gives you big points no matter if it's being manned or not. If it's manned, you will get more points, but for example, destroying an empty tank will give you 40 points at least (there are some other bonuses that can make this higher). - But losing an important asset will give you a lot of negative points, so be careful. But if you lost it by TK, you wont get penalized for losing it, but the TKer is getting a lot of negative points based on the type of vehicle he TKed. This covers some complaints in this thread, but there are a lot of other changes and bonuses or penalties, so I wont list them here. Just wait for the patch and check it out. |

dbzao, Bassdrive raises a good point - the asset-loss penalty is irrespective of how much usage you got from that asset, and ignores the fact that, for example, if you loose the only tank available to your side you'll pay the penalty when the enemy is able to waltz over you without fear of the 120mm gun.
(Plus, in my experience, the massive score loss and respawn time has made naff all difference do the overall liklihood of someone leaping into a tank and driving it into a city centre, or to solo-crewing a helo and floating it at 15m altitude next to a fully-manned AA-Vehicle. They still do it anyways) |

Some vehicles are transport vehicles, how are you compensated for delivering people to the fight if you face massive point loss for losing your Blackhawk/Humvee? Also will there be a point loss for TKs involving mines? Nine times out of ten it is the drivers fault, not the mine-layer. | |

score? lol
A non noob, but still foolish driver got one of our apcs stuck in a pit, useless far away from the fight. I as commander asked someone to blow it up so it would respawn and be useable... crickets answered. So i went over and blew the damn apc myself.. oh, but i had to suicide (i was commander and could only use engineer to blow the apc) and blow up the apc, as you can imagine i lost alot of points. a few minutes later the apc was back in action and was used in the final push against the enemy to win the battle. in basrah i am known to scrap IED's to motor bikes and crash into apcs, i dont earn all that many points, due to losing an asset and suiciding, but the damn apc is gone at the bargin price of one insurgent and a rapidly respawning bike, and i get my 27 virgins. But, at no point do i give a damn about my score, until the loading screen, then its always nice to hear "your the best woo go team helio!" but... and i think i talk for alot of people i play to enjoy the game first, second to win. Score doesnt even register. |
