Adding to what everyone else has said...
The 0.6 beta has hardly affected the number of people playing 0.5. Your choice is the current, stable, less buggy release (0.5) or to help us test 0.6. We have a closed testing group as well - but with the huge changes in gameplay we've made we need to be able to have full servers testing out how each map plays. Getting 64 people together from a small closed group is a logistical nightmare. There's been a lot of closed testing throughout the development cycle, before the beta was released - 5 full versions along with a whole load of patches to each and constant server side updates. This enables us to get rid of most of the bugs and to try out new ideas - but once we get to a stage where we're near being ready for release the large scale tests a public beta enables us to do are invaluable. |

i too agree that the open beta should have been more closed..we let it go on for too long and it has brough across the impression that we have 2 public releases...for those of us board regulars its a no brainer but for new players to the mod it would seems a little odd... i have had people ask me in .5 what the beta is and why its runnign along side the .5 version... this being said... Everyone please keep in mind the following few facts... to the original poster..please understand that you have an "opinion" regarding this situation.. to the flamers... you are also posting "opinions" so whos right?..none of you...a bunch of meaningless opinions.. Now..if we could all screw our damn heasd on we could easily see that perhaps this is a place to start discussing the BETA system and how it has turned out..this was our 1ST open Beta... so rather than waste a few precious moments typing your "opinions" of someone elses "opinion" why dont you guys help us out by giving us feedback about the BETA... ps..if i see another ".... has got to change" thread, im getting out of here..seriously you all piss me off sometimes with this crap..really meaning less... additionally please change every instance of "opinion" in this post to something much more colourful and you will have my true sentiment... | |

well, I dont' know if this helps the "argument", but the .6 OB is what brought me back to playing regularly.
Just my .02 cents. |

Ditto. I stopped playing for a while after I got a .5 overload. Anyway, this whole thread should be taken with a pinch of salt unless hard facts are bought in.

Why not just close v0.5 and make v0.6 the only official version out? If it's because there are too many bugs associated with v0.6, have no worries, v0.5 has it's share as well. Most people know that mods will undoubtedly have bugs. FACT I'm seeing more new people and less experienced players on PRMM v0.5. A lot of them with questions that only a few guys can answer. There is a definite effect of having two public versions out that are incompatible with each other.
Regardless of how many of you feel, it's illogical to have two versions out. |

Eggman is aware of this stuff, and from what I have read from him, basically the 0.6 open beta was an experiment, and they have learned from the experiment. My understanding is that if they do another open beta (for 0.7/0.
So basically what I'm saying is that the devs are already way ahead of you on this issue - as far as I can see. |

This is a stupid thread.
We have facts that support our perspectives on the player numbers. We're a lot more aware of what that looks like than folks making claims that the community is "split" across v0.5 and v0.6. You dont have a clue and certainly aren't looking at facts. We do. I would say that open betas will be the norm for future release of PR. We'll take lessons learned from this first one and try and improve subsequent ones. 'nuff said. Locked. |
